Katie Couric is set to become a grandmother, with Taylor Swift playing a part in the announcement. Couric, 66, shared an Instagram video on Sunday, December 17 with the caption "Been dying to tell you." She explained that during a Taylor Swift concert last summer, she forgot her friendship bracelet, and her daughters made one for her.
During the clip, Couric’s daughter Caroline “Carrie” Monaghan gives her a beaded bracelet that says, “Granny 2 Be.” The former TV anchor, visibly confused, looks at her other daughter, Elinor “Ellie” Monahan. “I’m pregnant,” Ellie, 32, told her mom.
“Last August, as we were about to get ready to go see Taylor Swift at SoFi stadium, my girls surprised me with a very special friendship bracelet they’d made, to share some very exciting news,” Couric wrote in a blog on her website, published on Sunday. “After squinting at it for a bit, I finally got it.”
Couric shares daughters Carrie, 27, and Ellie with late husband Jay Monahan, who died of cancer in 1998. Couric re-married husband John Molner in 2014.

Couric expressed mixed emotions about becoming a grandmother, noting that it signifies a new stage in life. She humorously mentioned using the grandma emoji, resembling actors in medical commercials, and being on the "back nine." She also reminisced about holding Ellie when she was a baby.
But her initial fear was soon replaced with joy when Couric discussed the experience with her friends who are already grandmothers.
"I am currently amazed by Ellie's expanding belly. Her due date is March 23, so it's just around the corner! I am still deciding on what I want to be called as a grandma, but I am certain it won't be that," she added, mentioning that Granny and "GILFIE (don't worry, that's not actually in the running!)" have been suggested.

Ellie, Couric’s oldest daughter, tied the knot with Mark Dobrosky in July 2021 at Cedar Lakes Estate in New York.
Recapping the ceremony on her website, Couric wrote, "We tried to incorporate some traditional elements, such as the cake cutting and first dance, but much of it was a true reflection of Ellie and Mark and what they wanted. It truly captured their love and partnership."
