Princess Kate Middleton’s uncle Gary Goldsmith admits that he talked a lot about the royal family during his time on Celebrity Big Brother.
During his live exit interview on Friday, March 8, Gary, 58, explained that people kept asking him about the royal family. They were curious about his connection and didn’t know much else about him. He felt pressured to talk about it and ended up bringing it up frequently. Fair is fair, he admitted, “Yeah, you caught me.”
Gary was a contestant on a U.K. game show that started earlier this month. As soon as he entered the house, he caught attention for openly sharing his thoughts about the royal family.
"I felt hurt being constantly labeled as a 'bad uncle.' I wanted to change that," he mentioned on Friday about his choice to participate in the competition show. "It was a great opportunity to get a sneak peek into the world of celebrities. I tried to stay true to myself, while also mentioning the royal family from time to time. It was fascinating to get a glimpse into their world. In my own world, I am used to being the center of attention, but this experience took it to a whole new level."
Gary acknowledged that he talked about his royal connections often because people were curious about Kate, Meghan Markle, and others. In his exit interview, he admitted that he may have mentioned it too much. Despite this, he mentioned that he had a great time and accomplished his goal in five days. He clarified that he doesn't see himself as a celebrity, but rather as someone related to a famous person.
Gary is Carole Middleton's brother, making him Kate's uncle. Many of the Celebrity Big Brother cast members were curious about Princess Diana's recent health scare and disappearance from the public eye, given Gary's royal connections. In January, Kensington Palace confirmed that Kate, who is 42 years old, had undergone a planned abdominal surgery, but did not provide further details. As Kate recovered at home, several of her scheduled appearances had to be canceled. (She had not been seen in public since December 2023, until a March outing with her mother, Carole.)
During the season 23 premiere of Celebrity Big Brother, contestant Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu directly asked Gary about Kate's whereabouts.
Gary mentioned that he respects his family member's desire not to discuss the matter. He explained that there is a certain unspoken rule or etiquette to follow. The focus for now is on supporting the family during this time. They have decided to prioritize their family member's well-being, allowing her the space to recover. Gary mentioned that they plan to reunite during Easter.

Princess Kate Middleton's uncle, Gary Goldsmith, has admitted to speaking frequently about the royal family during his time on Celebrity Big Brother. Goldsmith, who is Carole Middleton's brother and Kate's uncle, felt pressured to talk about his royal connections due to the constant inquiries from his fellow contestants. He explained that he wanted to change the perception of him being a "bad uncle" and saw the show as an opportunity to do so. While he acknowledges that he may have mentioned the royal family too often, he believes he accomplished his goal of giving viewers a glimpse into their world.
Goldsmith's comments highlight the intense public interest in the royal family and the scrutiny that extended family members face. However, it is important to respect the privacy of individuals, including members of the royal family, and allow them to recover from health issues without constant speculation or discussion. The focus should be on supporting Kate Middleton and her family during this time and allowing her the space she needs to prioritize her well-being.
