Kacey Musgraves recently opened up about her thoughts on relationships and love after breaking up with Cole Schafer. In an interview with The Cut, the 35-year-old singer shared, "I don’t regret giving my all in love. When I’m in a relationship, I'm fully committed. I believe that holding back only leads to problems, and half-hearted efforts are bound to fail."

Musgraves revealed that following her divorce from Ruston Kelly in 2020, she experienced a desire to shield her heart. However, she emphasized that she remains open to the possibility of love in the future.

The singer expressed, "After divorce, it’s like on one hand I do want to self-protect, but at the same time, if your heart is feeling open, I think you have to just show up for it." She added, "I’m still trying to figure out the balance of that."

Following her divorce from Kelly in July 2020 after three years of marriage, Musgraves started dating Schafer in August 2021.

In a 2021 New York Times profile, Musgraves shared that she appreciated that Schafer didn't know who she was when they first met in a crowded restaurant. She described feeling uncomfortable with the attention she received from others in the past, saying, "A handful of grown men come out, and they’re sweating trying to keep up with you on the sidewalk. It feels very predatory."

Nearly two years later, Musgraves and Schafer decided to end their relationship.

According to a source in November 2023, they were not on the same page about their current life situations and mutually agreed to part ways.

One month later, another source revealed that Schafer was not fond of the "glitz and glamor" that came with dating Musgraves and their personalities did not quite match in the end.

The insider shared that Schafer did not enjoy being Kacey's plus-one at various events and described him as a very sensitive and soulful individual who did not share her ambitions.

Four months after ending her relationship with Schafer, Musgraves revealed her upcoming album, Deeper Well, scheduled for release on March 15.

In a heartfelt Instagram post in February, the “Rainbow” singer shared that the album contains songs that are close to her heart. She expressed her hope that the music will also resonate with her fans, announcing the release of the title track song and music video on the same day.

Musgraves later revealed that the energy of New York City's Greenwich Village inspired her new album. She shared with The Cut, "I find it ironic that I found a more rootsy, folky, softer side in the midst of New York City. Some of my country influences resurfaced there."
