Jennifer Lawrence’s wedding weekend to Cooke Maroney in 2019 didn't turn out to be as peaceful as she had expected. During an interview with E! News on the Golden Globes red carpet on January 7, the 33-year-old actress humorously expressed the stress and anxiety she experienced while worrying about her guests' well-being. She recalled a moment when she was fretting over the guests feeling cold, and her friends were assuring her that everything was fine, despite her concerns.
Despite the cold weather and the presence of the actress' mother and grandmother, Lawrence's attention was solely on making sure that guest Robert De Niro was enjoying himself.
"I looked over and saw Bob, who doesn't know anybody, just wandering around," Lawrence remembered from her rehearsal dinner. "Immediately, I thought, 'This isn't what he wants to be doing. I don't want him to be here.'"
She added, "I went over and whispered, I was like, 'Go home' and he was considerate - he talked to my parents and was polite - but I was like, 'Go.'"
After De Niro, now 80, left the party, Lawrence confessed that she "truly" felt better.
Lawrence and De Niro formed a friendship after costarring in three movies together: Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle and Joy.
Jennifer Lawrence spoke highly of De Niro's on-set demeanor during a Vogue "73 Questions" interview in 2022, describing him as "amazing" and "the sweetest man in the world," while also noting his intimidating presence.
At the time, the star of No Hard Feelings mentioned that she had invited De Niro to her wedding celebrations, but she didn't expect him to actually attend.
"When he did show up, I told him, 'Bob, you really don't have to stay. You can go home,'" Lawrence told Vogue. "And he replied, 'Thank you so much,' and left."
Lawrence and Maroney tied the knot in October 2019 after being together for almost two years.
During a June 2019 episode of the "Naked with Catt Sadler" podcast, she expressed, "He's the best person I've ever met. He truly is, and he keeps getting better. I don't know, I started with the basics, you know, 'How do I feel? Is he nice? Is he kind?' ... It's just, 'This is The One.' He's the greatest person I've ever met, so I feel very honored to become a Maroney."
