An accidental fashion statement! Jennifer Lawrence revealed why she broke the dress code and wore flip-flops to the 76th Cannes Film Festival.

During the premiere of Anatomie d’une Chute in Cannes, France, Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence turned heads with her stunning Christian Dior gown and black sandals. However, unbeknownst to her, the film festival had a strict dress code in place. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Don't Look Up actress addressed the controversy surrounding her fashion choice, clarifying that it was not a political statement, though she admitted that she would not shy away from making one. Lawrence explained that she was completely unaware of the dress code and the controversy surrounding people wearing flats or going barefoot on the red carpet. She also revealed that her shoes were a size too big.

During the Cannes Film Festival, women have been required to wear heels on the red carpet for years. To challenge this rule, several A-list celebrities such as Julia Roberts and Kristen Stewart have either taken off their shoes or arrived barefoot in defiance. Recently, Lawrence shared that she wore heels on her way up but had to switch to flip-flops to take a picture with her production team, Excellent Cadaver. While she is all for making a statement, she would prefer it to be intentional rather than accidental.

At the May event, Lawrence's stunning cherry-colored gown stole the show with its ruffled neckline, spaghetti straps, ball gown skirt, and train. Her matching shawl and diamond choker perfectly complemented the ensemble, while her makeup was flawless with a matte face, feathered eyebrows, warm eyeshadows, soft mascara, rosy cheeks, and pink lips. The finishing touch was her blonde hair elegantly parted down the middle and blown out. Later that same day, Lawrence exuded effortless elegance in a sleeveless knit gown with an open back for the photocall of Bread and Roses, which she produced. She completed the look with an updo and dainty jewelry.
