Jennifer Hudson and Common were very open about their romance while attending Usher's My Way residency performance on Saturday, December 2, in Las Vegas. The 42-year-old talk show host and the 51-year-old rapper were seated in the VIP section at Dolby Live at Park MGM, and Usher, 45, made sure they had an unforgettable night.
The Super Bowl LVIII halftime show performer serenaded the crowd with his 2010 hit "There Goes My Baby", and in an Instagram video, both Jennifer Hudson and Common can be seen smiling as he made his way over to their table. Hudson gestured towards Usher, who reached for her hand. Common then graciously moved their table out of the way so his date could stand up and embrace Usher as he continued to sing, drawing cheers from the crowd.
A fan commended Common for ensuring that Hudson had a wonderful moment, writing, "Common is the real star of this video, he said let me show yall how real men react at one of these concerts. He took his lady there to have a good time and that’s exactly what the energy says. Not an insecurity in sight."
Rumors of Hudson and Common dating started last year when they were seen together in Philadelphia while filming the upcoming action movie Breathe. Despite denying the romance initially, Hudson added fuel to the speculations when she posted a photo with Common in March, captioning it, “Pls help me wish one of the brightest lights, a Chicago and hip hop legend, the one and only @common a very happy birthday.”
In July, they were spotted together in London attending a performance of the Tony Award–winning musical, A Strange Loop, which Hudson coproduced.
Common and Jennifer Hudson made an appearance together at the 4th Biennial Stand Up To Cancer in 2014. Recently, Hudson hinted at her relationship with the rapper without explicitly mentioning his name during an interview on CBS Mornings. When host Gayle King mentioned Hudson being in "a very nice relationship," Hudson simply replied with a smile, "Yes, ma'am."
When Nate Burleson asked if she was in a relationship, Hudson answered, "I think it's more elegant than being in a relationship." Common also dodged questions about his rumored relationship with Hudson during an appearance on the Today show in June.
"She is truly remarkable. I have always found her to be a source of inspiration," he exclaimed. "She is one of the most beautiful individuals I have ever encountered. Her heart is truly incredible and she is just amazing. To witness her transition from acting to singing, and now hosting a talk show, is truly inspiring. I am thankful to have her in my life."
