Jenelle Evans recently talked about her choice to file for separation from her husband David Eason instead of going straight for a divorce.

In a TikTok video posted on Wednesday, March 6, the 32-year-old reality star addressed a comment suggesting she should just skip the separation and go for divorce. Evans explained that the option of skipping the separation was not available to her.

In North Carolina, before filing for divorce, you must be legally separated for a year and have two separate addresses. Jenelle Evans from Teen Mom 2 shared that she couldn't skip straight to divorce because of this requirement. She explained that neither she nor her partner wanted to leave their shared home. So, she filed for separation by bed and board, which means they have to remain separated for a year before proceeding with the divorce process.

"If you have a one-time hookup and then get back together, but end up arguing and feeling like it's not working out, don't worry," she explained. "The clock resets, they're very specific about this, it's kind of crazy. That's where I am right now, and the countdown has begun."

On Monday, March 4, news surfaced that Evans had filed for separation from Eason. According to court documents obtained by The Sun, Evans stated their date of separation as February 16. In the documents, Evans mentioned that during their six-year marriage, Eason had displayed concerning and sometimes disturbing behavior towards her.

Evans pointed to the 2019 incident when Eason shot and killed their family dog as an example. She also brought up Eason's alleged assault on her 14-year-old son, Jace, which occurred late last year. Evans shares Jace with ex Andrew Lewis, as well as son Kaiser, 9, with ex Nathan Griffith, and daughter Ensley, 7, with Eason.

According to Evans, Eason is currently staying on her boat and has been spending his days drinking at a bar. She claimed that he has been refusing to give her access to their mailbox key, which has prevented her from getting Jace's medication.

Evans claimed that Eason has been engaging in marital misconduct by frequently drinking alcohol, not holding down a steady full-time job for several years, thoughtlessly spending the money that Evans earns on his own, and other behaviors that will be revealed during the trial.

Evans shared more about how she was feeling on social media after the breakup news. In a TikTok video, she danced to a fast-paced song by Lady Gaga and asked for some love and support.

During the chorus of the song, Evans changed the words to reflect her situation, saying "I filed for separation." She then took a bow in the video and wrote "New chapter unlocked" in the caption.

Evans also shared a video of her lip-synching to a voiceover clip from Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who says, “You can’t bring me down, I’m on a high right now.”
