Jana Kramer and Allan Russell, her fiancé, joyfully welcomed their first child, Roman James Russell, on Monday, November 13. In a statement provided to People on Tuesday, November 14, the couple expressed their immense gratitude and happiness, emphasizing how blessed they feel to have collaborated on creating something as remarkable as their son.
They explained that while the name Roman was not influenced by anyone in particular, it was a name they both adored for its strength. However, they decided to include the middle name James as a tribute to both of their grandfathers. The 39-year-old One Tree Hill alum and the 42-year-old former professional athlete officially announced their pregnancy in June, just a couple of weeks after their engagement.
"We have one more secret that we haven't shared with you all (don't worry, this will be the last announcement for a while). But I have some exciting news to share - I'm pregnant!" Kramer revealed on Instagram, along with a picture of the couple displaying a positive pregnancy test. "We feel incredibly blessed and grateful to have this baby be a part of our journey."
Although the couple from Michigan and the Norwich FC coach were enthusiastic about growing their family, Kramer had concerns about potential fertility challenges.
Expressing her surprise and concern, she admitted on her "Whine Down" podcast that she never expected to become pregnant. Recalling her previous miscarriages, she expressed apprehension about successfully carrying a pregnancy to full term. She shared that her partner, Allan, was the first person she felt comfortable considering having another baby with, but also expressed doubts about her ability to physically endure another pregnancy. It is worth mentioning that Kramer is the co-parent of her 7-year-old daughter, Jolie, and 4-year-old son, Jace, with her ex-husband, Mike Caussin. In 2018, she candidly disclosed her experience with multiple miscarriages prior to the birth of Jace.
After experiencing numerous hormonal changes in my body, I became aware of the shared struggle among many women who also feel isolated during this time. It can be frustrating, but I have come to recognize that having a baby is truly a miracle, and its timing is ultimately in the hands of a higher power. If it is meant to happen, it will happen.
In April 2021, Kramer and Caussin, who is 36 years old, ultimately ended their relationship due to allegations of infidelity on the former football player's part. The "Story" singer subsequently found love with Russell, whom she publicly announced her relationship with in January 2023.
"I unequivocally discovered my soulmate," Kramer exclusively exclaimed to Us the following April. "He is incredible. He provides a sense of security that I have never experienced before," Kramer revealed to Us. "I transform in his presence. I feel more at ease. Unlike any previous relationship, I finally feel safe and it's truly wonderful."
She further added, "In the past, I believed that a relationship was the ultimate source of happiness. However, I shattered that belief last year even before meeting Allan. I realized that I needed to find happiness within myself, as no boyfriend or husband could fulfill that role. I reached a point of contentment, and that's when true happiness entered my life."
Russell proposed to the singer of "I Got the Boy" after dating for six months. Jolie revealed the engagement to Caussin over FaceTime, saying, "Guess what, Daddy? Mommy's engaged!" Kramer shared this incident on her podcast in May 2023, mentioning that she would have preferred to tell Caussin herself but didn't want Jolie to keep secrets from her father.
"He said, ‘Hey, I’m genuinely pleased for you. Allan is an amazing person.’ My emotional reaction was immediate as tears started to stream down my face. He reassured me further saying, ‘Among all individuals, it is you who truly deserve to be loved and respected, and you deserve this happiness.’ He acknowledged, ‘After everything I have put you through, you deserve this more than anyone else.’ The weight of his words held immense significance for me."
