Jana Kramer’s latest holiday film is breaking records for surprising reasons.
"It's the first [Lifetime] Christmas movie to include a steamy scene," Kramer, 39, shared during the November 27th episode of her "Whine Down" podcast. "When I first read the script, I thought, 'Well, this is going to be different.' I wondered, 'How will we pull this off with the baby bump?'"
The movie "A Cowboy Christmas Romance" follows real estate agent Lexie, played by Kramer, as she returns to her Arizona hometown to reclaim land belonging to rancher Coby Mason, played by Adam Senn. As the two form a connection, Lexie begins to question her life choices and works to restore her relationships with her father and brother.
Kramer, who was pregnant with her and fiancé Allan Russell’s son Roman during filming, continued: “We’re on this — spoiler alert — he lays me down on some hay, and then we, you know … And then, you know, obviously, it’s still Lifetime, it’s still family. But it was pushing limits there, too.”
One Tree Hill actress made a lighthearted joke about the scene and her pregnancy the following day on set, stating, "I was like, 'We made a baby!'" The scene, which writer Sarah Drew was insistent on including, took place in the kitchen and came out beautifully. Drew emphasized her intention for the steamy and sensual stage direction to be included, saying, "Don't take the steam and the sex away from me. I wrote it on purpose, I want it in there."
According to Kramer, Lifetime “didn’t cut anything.” She added: “I was so happy that they really left it all in there.”

In the podcast, Kramer mentioned that she found A Cowboy Christmas Romance to be a refreshing change from her previous holiday movie experiences. She expressed that it was different from traditional Christmas movies and that she was moved emotionally while reading the script. Drew, 43, explained that she intentionally crafted the story to include more than just "cozy feelings," incorporating real family, identity, and relationship themes.
During the production, Kramer shared some amusing moments related to her pregnancy, such as a lighthearted comment from director Jake Helgren. She recalled, "[He] is so great, but the last week of filming that, he’s like, ‘Please don’t take this the wrong way,’ he’s like, ‘But you’re gonna have to suck in just a little bit.’"

Kramer wasn't offended by the comment, since she was wearing two layers of Spanx to conceal her baby bump. Nevertheless, she added, "I'm thinking, 'This is the only time you can ever say that to an actress.'"
A Cowboy Christmas Romance premieres on Lifetime Saturday, December 9, at 8 p.m. ET.
