Jana Kramer Proudly Embraces her Decision to Not Breastfeed Son Roman

Jana Kramer has chosen not to breastfeed her son Roman, and she is content with her decision. In an Instagram Q&A on Friday, December 8, the 40-year-old responded to a follower by stating, "I am not breastfeeding and he is perfectly happy." She expressed that they are using formula and Dr. Brown bottles, mentioning that they had success with these products with her other children.
Filming the video, Kramer cradled baby Roman in her arms. The newborn, who was born last month to Kramer and her fiancé Allan Russell, was captured drinking from a bottle with his eyes closed. Alongside the video, Kramer shared the caption: “And I don’t have any shame around it like I did the last 2 times when I tried to breastfeed.”
The One Tree Hill alum — who is also mom of daughter Jolie, 7, and son Jace, 5, with ex-husband Mike Caussin — previously opened up about her experience trying to breastfeed her firstborn.
During a January 2020 episode of her "Whine Down" podcast, Kramer admitted, "I'm going to be completely honest - I didn't want to breastfeed. I had no desire to do it because I wasn't breastfed myself. I didn't feel the need to have that connection with my baby. Personally, I'm not comfortable with my nipples being touched or someone sucking on them." Despite her initial reluctance, Kramer decided to give it a try because it was important to Caussin, 36.
“But then my milk didn’t come in, and they wanted me to supplement and they wanted me to pump. It was incredibly stressful,” she remembered. “I was just crying, like, ‘Oh, my gosh, my baby lost even more weight than she should have.’ My milk eventually came in but we had already decided to formula feed. I remember receiving a lot of criticism and hate.”

Caussin stood by Kramer’s choice to end breastfeeding, telling Us in January 2019: “As husbands, we don’t feel as powerless. We can help with feedings and do more instead of just feeling helpless.” Kramer filed for divorce from Caussin in April 2021 after almost six years of marriage. Before ending their relationship, the couple openly discussed the issues, including Caussin’s infidelity.

“Yesterday, four years ago, was the day we found out,” Caussin shared on Kramer’s Instagram Story in July 2020. “It was the day Jana discovered everything I was doing. It was a life-altering, terrible day for both of us, but we were able to support each other, find common ground, and be grateful for where we are now compared to four years ago.”
Three months after Kramer filed for divorce, she and her ex finalized their split. Following her divorce from Caussin, Kramer began a relationship with Russell, 42, confirming their romance in January. In May, the couple announced their engagement and one month later revealed that they were expecting their first child together.
