Introducing the Latest Addition: The Steam Deck with an OLED Display

The all-new Steam Deck not only features a cutting-edge OLED screen but also boasts a host of impressive improvements, making it a true powerhouse in portable gaming Discover an unrivaled gaming experience with enhanced performance and sleek design

The Steam Deck revolutionized portable PC gaming, giving birth to a wave of competitor products like the ASUS ROG Ally. Despite the abundance of alternatives, the original Steam Deck maintains its popularity due to its relatively affordable price. Now, Valve introduces the Steam Deck OLED, a refreshed version with an OLED screen and several other enhancements.

Valve has unveiled the Steam Deck OLED as an upgrade to the original model, offering several noteworthy improvements. Let's begin with the standout feature—the OLED screen. As the name suggests, the Steam Deck OLED boasts an OLED display, delivering deeper blacks and superior color reproduction. While the resolution remains unchanged, the screen size has increased slightly to 7.4 inches compared to the previous 7 inches. Moreover, the screen now supports a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. These enhancements combine to provide a more vibrant gaming experience with seamless visuals, thanks to the improved refresh rate of 90Hz.

However, despite being a modest upgrade (and not a Steam Deck 2), there are some notable internal hardware improvements to be excited about. For instance, there is now a larger battery and a more efficient version (7nm to 6nm) of the original Steam Deck's custom Zen 2 chip. In theory, this means that while performance should remain the same, battery life will be significantly improved. Additionally, faster RAM, storage options of up to 1TB, and support for Wi-Fi 6E have been included. Essentially, this upgrade addresses the weaknesses of the original Steam Deck and enhances the device to its fullest potential. Although we currently do not have information about the release of a second-generation Steam Deck, this enhanced version provides much-needed efficiency and a significant screen upgrade in the meantime.

The upcoming Steam Deck OLED, priced from $549.99, is set for release on November 16th. However, you can add it to your Steam wishlist to secure an early purchase upon its launch.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan, I am incredibly excited about the release of the Steam Deck OLED. The original Steam Deck was already a revolutionary device, and the OLED display and other enhancements make the new model even more appealing.

I am particularly excited about the larger battery and more efficient processor, as these will make the Steam Deck more portable and easier to use on the go. The faster RAM and storage options will also make gaming more enjoyable and immersive. Overall, I think the Steam Deck OLED is a great upgrade for existing Steam Deck owners and a great option for those looking to get into portable PC gaming.
