Genshin Impact's new five-star character, Lyney, will be introduced in update 4.0, along with his sister Lynette and Hydro user Yelan.
Initially known for her cheerful demeanor, Lyney reveals a hidden dark side, portraying a cunning character who weaves intricate webs of deception.
Lyney's unique playstyle centers around utilizing a Charged Attack to taunt adversaries while acquiring a stack of Prop Surplus. Additionally, her Elemental Burst metamorphoses her into a mesmerizing cat wearing a hat, unleashing devastating Pyro damage upon her foes.
Genshin Impact has officially unveiled the character demo for its highly anticipated five-star character, the renowned magician Lyney, hailing from the illustrious city of Fontaine. In the upcoming update 4.0, players will have the opportunity to add Lyney to their playable roster, alongside two other captivating characters. This update will also mark the long-awaited debut of the Hydro region, inviting Travelers to finally explore its enigmatic wonders. Lyney and his sister Lynette were among the very first Fontaine characters introduced to players through the early story teasers of Genshin Impact. In the initial phase of the forthcoming update, both of these captivating characters will be made available to players, along with the return of the Hydro user Yelan, granting her second re-run.
Genshin Impact's official YouTube channel has unveiled the final character demo titled "Secret Inside the Hat," showcasing the upcoming Pyro bow user, Lyney. Lyney is set to be the sole new five-star character featured in the forthcoming update. Despite the previous promotional videos and official descriptions portraying Lyney as a cheerful, sociable character, recent leaks have unveiled a hidden, darker side. Behind his friendly facade, Lyney is revealed to be an astute individual, consistently spinning a web of deceit.
This notion was further hinted at in one of HoYoverse's recent promotional videos, wherein Lyney and his sister are seen posing alongside the notorious Harbinger Arlecchino, anticipated to be the primary antagonist in this region. In terms of gameplay, Lyney is projected to function as a new DPS unit, utilizing Charged Attacks. Much like Tighnari and Ganyu's abilities, Lyney's Charged Attack will possess two distinct levels activated by varying charging durations.
When he unleashes his empowered attack, it will inflict a debuff called Grin-Malkin Hat, provoking nearby enemies. This debuff allows players to strategically reposition themselves and ensure their strongest attacks hit the intended targets. Additionally, this attack grants Lyney a Prop Surplus stack, which can be eliminated by using his Elemental Skill, Bewildering Lights. This skill deals AoE Pyro damage to enemies in front of him.
Lyney is well-known for his impressive Elemental Burst animation, where he transforms into a Grin-Malkin Cat wearing a hat and bounces around the battlefield, dealing significant Pyro damage. Players aiming to maximize the character's damage potential should aim to obtain Lyney's signature weapon, The First Great Magic bow.
Genshin Impact is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
