Insights into Warrior Nun Season 3 Plot Unveiled by Showrunner

Warrior Nun's showrunner, Simon Barry, unveils intriguing plot details for the canceled Season 3, sharing his envisioned storyline had Netflix not axed the show

Showrunner Simon Barry recently shared his plans for season 3 of Warrior Nun, which were never realized due to Netflix's cancellation of the series. In recent years, Netflix has faced criticism for canceling TV shows with female leads and content centered on WLW relationships, with Warrior Nun being a notable example.

Netflix initially produced two seasons of the series before canceling it, despite the second season receiving strong support. In response, fans launched a petition and put up billboards in the United States and the UK to save the show.

The news that Warrior Nun would continue as a movie series brought joy to fans. However, their excitement was short-lived as it was later announced that series showrunner and creator Simon Barry would not be part of the movie.

Speaking to The OCS Newsletter, Barry elaborated on the potential storyline for Warrior Nun season 3 if the show had been renewed.

"There isn't much to discuss beyond what we envisioned for the larger narrative of season 3. My intention, while writing season 2 and developing Ava's character, was to have her make a sacrifice because she consistently puts herself first."

Over seasons 1 and 2, her character transforms through self-sacrifice. She lets go of the fantasy of starting over and prioritizes sacrificing herself for her loved ones and friends.

The showrunner also disclosed that Ava’s love interest Beatrice would have played a significant role in helping Ava rediscover herself.

In the season 2 finale, Beatrice and Ava finally confess their feelings for each other.

"For season 3, I really wanted to shake things up a bit and have Ava return as... almost a villain. Not intentionally, but she comes back altered by Reya. And Reya essentially manipulates her to carry out a plan.

The OCS must locate the missing Beatrice, as she is the only one who can help Ava break free from her current state of mind. Beatrice needs to emotionally and psychically save Ava to prevent her from self-destructing. It remains to be seen whether the movies will stick to this plot or take the Warrior Nun story in a completely different direction.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan of Warrior Nun, I am deeply disappointed by Netflix's decision to cancel the show after two seasons. The series has a strong and dedicated fan base, and it is frustrating to see it end prematurely. I believe that the show's cancellation is part of a larger trend of Netflix canceling shows with female leads and WLW relationships, which is deeply concerning.

I am particularly disappointed that we will not get to see the storyline that Simon Barry had envisioned for season 3. The idea of Ava returning as a villain, manipulated by Reya, and needing to be saved by Beatrice is intriguing and would have added a new layer of complexity to the show. I am also curious to know more about the role that Beatrice would have played in helping Ava rediscover herself. Overall, I feel that Netflix made a mistake in canceling Warrior Nun, and I hope that the show will find a new home where it can continue its story.
