Hoda Kotb is feeling sentimental as her family prepares to move to a new residence in New York City.
"I was sitting at my desk this morning, like I do every day. I light a candle, have my journal, and do my routine. It hit me that this is the last Monday I'll be sitting at this desk because we're moving this week," shared Kotb, 59, on the episode of Today With Hoda & Jenna aired on Monday, June 3.
Her cohost, Jenna Bush Hager, mentioned that moving can be tough, especially when leaving behind a place where you brought your babies home. Kotb agreed, recalling her daughters' early days during a quiet morning moment. She shares kids Haley, 7, and Hope, 5, with her ex-fiancé, Joel Schiffman.
"I remember them trying to crawl up the stairs and now I see them racing up and down," she shared. "I was thinking about the first time we brought them home, carrying them up those stairs in their car seats and placing them in their cribs. Watching old videos of them as babies, it's a mix of wanting to hold onto the memories and letting go. Seeing those videos, I can't believe I have a 7 and a 5-year-old now. There are so many memories and moments we have built in that house."
Moving from one home to another can be emotionally heavy, and Bush Hager, 42, understands this well. She, along with her husband Henry Hager and their three kids - Mila, 11, Poppy, 8, and Hal, 4 - made the move two years ago.
Bush Hager shared a poignant moment with Kotb, recalling a night when the family sat on their couch in the empty apartment. She was overwhelmed with emotions, reflecting on the memories created in their previous home. From bringing their babies home to weathering both beautiful and difficult moments, the apartment held significant moments. The loss of her grandparents, her girls' stick figure drawings, all marked time in a unique way. It made her realize the significance of each moment spent in that space.

As Kotb gets ready for her move, she mentioned that her main goal is to not rush through it. She emphasized the importance of taking time during transitions and endings, instead of just wishing it all away. She encouraged taking a moment to look around and appreciate the present, similar to what was done on the couch.
In a March episode of her podcast "Making Space," Kotb shared that she and her daughters were relocating to a new school. She later clarified on Hoda & Jenna that they were not leaving New York City.
Have you ever thought about who the best 'Today Show' host of all time is? Well, Jenna Bush Hager shared some interesting thoughts on March 28. She reflected on the many times she and others have moved in their lives, highlighting how each move brought about a significant adjustment. Despite the challenges, she emphasized that the stories of growth and development in her life stem from these experiences.
