Hoda Kotb shared a funny and painful story about her shoe choice on the April 23 episode of Today With Hoda & Jenna. Jenna Bush Hager questioned Kotb about why she was wearing tennis shoes at the beginning of the show. Kotb, 59, explained that she chose comfortable shoes after a mishap on the New York City subway.
"I ran to another subway car and jammed my toe so hard,” she revealed. “But, you know, when you’re too busy caught up in the adrenaline of what was happening. So, my toe is fine now, and someone said [if] you can’t do a thing about it, tape it.”
Following the advice she heard, Kotb proceeded to tape her injured toe — but not with the proper supplies. “So last night, I had no tape except for Scotch,” she shared, prompting a shocked reaction from Bush Hager, 42.
"No way! You used Scotch tape on your toe?" she exclaimed. Kotb replied, "Yes, I did. I wrapped it around and then tried to secure it down. I even looked it up on Google."
Kotb went on to explain that she couldn't find any medical tape at home, so she resorted to using Scotch tape. "I searched everywhere for our first aid kit, but it was nowhere to be found," she said. "I thought maybe my kids' colored tape would work, but I couldn't find a single roll. We have 50 rolls, but the only tape I found was the old Christmas tape."
Kotb, who has two daughters named Haley, 7, and Hope, with her ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman, is not the only Today show host dealing with an injury. Sheinelle Jones, cohost of the third hour of Today, shared on Instagram that she hurt her knees while running errands earlier this month.

Hoda Kotb shared on Instagram that she fell on her face while running down the street in New York City. In a video posted on April 2, she takes her followers behind the scenes of her life. After the show, she has been icing her knees for the past couple of days.
Jones, who is 46 years old, made fun of her own clumsiness recently. She shared a funny story about how she ran out of a Dollar Store with plastic and paper plates, then rushed to Insomnia Cookies to buy cookies for her friends. Unfortunately, she ended up falling on her face in front of everyone on the street. She even posted a photo of her "out of control bruises" on her Instagram Story on the same day.
Jones, who just celebrated her 46th birthday on the Today show, had previously filled in for Kotb on an episode that aired on April 10. She stepped in while Kotb was away in New Orleans for Hoda & Jenna's 5th anniversary special shows.
Kotb and Bush Hager recently celebrated their 5th year as cohosts on the 'Today Show' with a special episode before heading to Louisiana. The show featured surprises like a performance by Meghan Trainor, the Empire State Building lit up in pink and purple, and NYC mayor Eric Adams declaring it Today With Hoda & Jenna Day in the city.
"It's amazing how every day brings something new and different, something that we're constantly learning," Kotb shared affectionately with Bush Hager. "You have played a significant role in leading me on this journey, introducing me to people in your life who have been like healers to me. It's like everything has fallen into place perfectly. It's all part of a bigger plan."
Editor's P/S:
Hoda Kotb's humorous tale of using Scotch tape to treat her injured toe highlights the importance of having proper first aid supplies on hand. While it may seem like a quick and easy solution, using household adhesive tape on open wounds can lead to infection or further injury. It's always best to use medical-grade tape or bandages specifically designed for wound care.
The article also sheds light on the camaraderie and support among the Today show hosts. Kotb and Bush Hager recently celebrated their 5th anniversary as cohosts, marking a significant milestone in their friendship and professional partnership. Despite their occasional mishaps, they continue to navigate the challenges of live television with humor and resilience.
