Henry Cavill's Character Look: A Closer Look
Henry Cavill addresses his character's overall look, including his bizarre haircut, in the spy movie Argylle. From Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn, the upcoming action comedy stars Cavill as the eponymous Agent Argylle, a fictional character created by reclusive author Elly Conway (played by Bryce Dallas Howard) as the protagonist of her series of best-selling spy novels.
Henry Cavill as Argylle in Matthew Vaughn movie
Ever since the first look at Henry Cavill in Argylle was revealed way back in November 2022, his character's bizarre haircut has been a topic of discussion. Ahead of the Argylle release date next year, Cavill addressed his character's look and bizarre flat-top haircut in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.
The Argylle star says the eponymous spy's appearance wasn't his choice, and instead, it was director Matthew Vaughn's, though he did come around to appreciate Agent Argylle's signature style. Check out Cavill's full comment below:
Agent Argylle's Appearance Explained
That was actually Matthew's pitch, his signature style. I wanted to have fun with it. Matthew said, 'Look, this guy's going to have a particular look and you've got to trust me.' And I did! That's the kind of thing I was looking for. I'm glad I did it.
Argylle sees author Elly Conway become the target of a sinister underground syndicate when the plot of her spy novels begins to predict actual events. Though an undercover spy, Aiden Wilde (Sam Rockwell), shows up to save Elly, the author imagines that Agent Argylle is the one actually protecting her from danger. However, the two spies' appearances are drastically different. Cavill's character, who wears a green velvet suit and flat-top haircut, represents Elly's fantasy, while Wilde, with his long hair and shaggy beard, represents reality.
Much about Argylle appears bizarre, including its main premise, but also some behind-the-scenes details. The movie is apparently based on an unreleased book by first-time author Elly Conway, who also acts as the film's protagonist and the in-universe author of the Argylle novels. However, the actual identity of the author has been called into question since there is no real evidence of her existence other than an Instagram account. Argylle is a bizarre movie overall, so perhaps it's fitting that the eponymous spy's overall appearance, including his flat-top haircut, is equally bizarre.
