HBO's The Last Of Us Misses Out on Golden Globe Awards

HBO's The Last Of Us misses out on Golden Globe wins, losing in three categories to fellow HBO hit, Succession Despite critical acclaim, the series falls short at the prestigious awards ceremony

Despite receiving three nominations, HBO's The Last of Us was unable to secure any wins at The Golden Globes this past weekend. The highly praised show fell short in all of its categories to the series Succession.

Nominations for The Last of Us included best TV series (drama), best performance by a male actor in a TV drama (Pedro Pascal), and best performance by a female actor in a TV drama (Bella Ramsey). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Succession ultimately claimed the best drama TV series award, with Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook from the show winning over Pascal and Ramsey, respectively. In fact, Variety reported on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Culkin jokingly told Pascal to "suck it."

The Last of Us found success at the Creative Arts Emmys, taking home eight awards. Nick Offerman, who played Bill, won for outstanding guest actor in a drama series, and Storm Reid, who played Riley, won for outstanding guest actress in a drama series. Offerman also mentioned that a prequel series based on Bill and Frank has been pitched to HBO, with plenty of creative ideas to explore.

The highly anticipated arrival of The Last of Us: Season 2 is scheduled for 2025, with production slated to commence early this year. The upcoming season of the HBO series will see the addition of Abby from the game The Last of Us: Part II as a prominent member of the main cast. While the actress for the role has been selected, the official announcement is still pending.

To delve deeper, find out why The Last of Us was chosen as Our Website's 2023 TV show of the year.

Editor's P/S

As a hard fan of HBO's The Last of Us, I am deeply disappointed by its failure to secure any wins at the Golden Globe Awards. The show's critical acclaim and widespread popularity made it a strong contender in all three categories it was nominated for. The performances of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey were particularly outstanding, bringing the characters of Joel and Ellie to life with incredible depth and emotion. It is disheartening that their talent was not recognized by the Golden Globes.

Looking ahead, I am eagerly anticipating the arrival of The Last of Us: Season 2 in 2025. The introduction of Abby as a prominent character adds an exciting new dimension to the story, and I am confident that the show will continue to deliver the same high-quality storytelling and character development that made the first season so successful. Despite the disappointment of the Golden Globes, I remain a loyal fan of The Last of Us and believe it is truly deserving of recognition as one of the best TV shows of the year.
