Hollywood actor Nick Offerman has stated that he pitched a prequel series for The Last of Us to HBO, focused on the character Bill from Season 1. The Last of Us adaptation on HBO was a huge success, breaking records for both the network and the original video game. After the gripping debut season, fans are eager to see what's in store for the future.
Details on Season 2 production are being kept under wraps, including the casting of Abby and how closely it will follow the events of Part 2. Before Season 2, those involved in the first season are looking to do more than just a follow-up. Nick Offerman, the actor behind Bill’s story in the acclaimed Long, Long Time episode, has reportedly pitched a prequel series to HBO.
Nick Offerman has revealed that he and Murray Bartlett are working on a musical prequel for #TheLastofUs after Offerman's Creative Arts #Emmys win.
Fresh from winning his first-ever Emmy Award for his portrayal of Bill, Offerman eagerly spoke with the media backstage to discuss his future plans. Though nothing is confirmed yet, he expressed his desire to further develop the character through HBO, mentioning that it has been proposed when asked about a potential return to the role.
"We proposed a full mini-series about the lives of Bill and Frank before they meet," he commented, referring to Bill and Frank. He then joked, "Maybe it could be a musical. We have no shortage of ideas. We'll wait and see what Craig [Mazin] and Neil [Druckmann] come up with."
For now, it's evident that nothing has been finalized. However, it seems that Offerman isn't the only one hoping for the HBO adaptation to take on new directions that differ from the games.
In episode 3 of The Last of Us, Bill and Frank captured the hearts of millions of HBO viewers.
In a previous interview with The Wrap, showrunner Craig Mazin mentioned the possibility of spin-offs, suggesting that there is potential for new shows that could explore the world of these characters. "I have no issue with it whatsoever, and I’m sure Neil would be interested as well," Mazin said.
Is it possible that a Bill and Frank prequel could be the first of these spinoff projects? It seems likely, especially since all parties are open to the idea. We'll just have to wait and see what HBO decides for now.

As a hard fan of The Last of Us, I am thrilled about the possibility of a prequel series starring Nick Offerman as Bill. Bill's character was one of the most compelling and well-developed in the first season, and I would love to see more of his backstory. A prequel series would allow us to explore Bill's life before the outbreak, his relationship with Frank, and how he became the hardened survivor we meet in the game.
I am also excited about the idea of a musical prequel. Offerman and Bartlett have great chemistry, and I think they would be perfect for a musical. A musical prequel would be a unique and creative way to tell Bill and Frank's story, and I think it would be a hit with fans. I hope that HBO decides to move forward with this project, and I can't wait to see what Offerman and Bartlett come up with.
