Golf's angriest champion, who hasn't swung a slapshot in almost 30 years, is making a comeback to the tee box.
Netflix revealed on X Wednesday that a sequel to "Happy Gilmore" is in development, with Adam Sandler returning as the neurotic lead character from the comedy classic.
Sandler collaborated on writing the 1996 movie. It tells the story of a former ice hockey player who turns into a successful golf player to save his grandmother's house from being taken away.
Gilmore faces a tough opponent in Shooter McGavin, played by Christopher McDonald. In March, McDonald hinted that Sandler was in the process of writing a sequel to the film.
During an interview on "Audacy's 92.3 The Fan" radio show, McDonald revealed that a sequel is currently in progress. Fans have been clamoring for it, and McDonald expressed his excitement when he saw the first draft that Sandler shared with him.
In the original movie, Julie Bowen, Frances Bay, and Kevin Nealon starred alongside McDonald and Sandler. The late Carl Weathers, who passed away at the age of 76 in February, also had a role in the film.

Weathers portrayed the character Derick “Chubbs” Peterson, a former professional who becomes Gilmore’s mentor. Sandler praised him as “a true great man” in an Instagram post honoring the football player turned actor.
“Great dad. Great actor. Great athlete,” Sandler, 57, wrote. “So much fun to be around … Carl will always be known as a true legend.”
