Hannah Brown Opens Up About Struggles Before Adam Woolard Engagement: The Journey to Overcoming a Mental Breakdown

Hannah Brown opens up about her emotional struggles before getting engaged to Adam Woolard, describing it as a full-on mental breakdown in August

Hannah Brown experienced a dramatic emotional episode leading up to her proposal to Adam Woolard. During her appearance on the "LadyGang" podcast on Tuesday, November 7, Brown revealed that she had a breakdown questioning the concept of love. The catalyst for this breakdown was spending the day with her parents, as she explained to podcast hosts Keltie Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jac Vanek.

The next day, Woolard disclosed his intention to propose but desired to confirm Brown's approval.

"Why would you even tell me?" she exclaimed. "That evening, I completely broke down mentally."

Following their conversation, Brown promptly sent an urgent email to her therapist, titled "In dire need of counsel," and went for her therapy session the next day.

Despite Woolard inadvertently revealing some details, Brown had anticipated the proposal to unfold in a specific manner. Surprisingly, Woolard managed to successfully execute the surprise.

Brown and Woolard were first rumored to be dating in January 2021 after being seen together on numerous occasions. Their relationship became official on Instagram the next month. In May 2022, they decided to live together and just this past August, Woolard surprised Brown with a proposal. Brown was under the impression that they were attending a party for their friends who had a newborn, but little did he know it was all a clever disguise for Woolard's proposal.

"I simply believed it. Honestly, he could have placed the ring right on the kitchen table, and in that moment, I was so consumed with my thoughts that I wouldn't have even noticed," Brown shared on Tuesday's podcast. "That's the state of mind I was in at the time. It was a lovely gesture, and he was very kind, but I wasn't at my best. It was difficult."

Earlier, Brown exclusively mentioned to We that she felt "a bit apprehensive" about publicly sharing her engagement story.

“I was worried that our relationship would be judged because it didn't fit the perfect, fairy tale image that people portray on social media,” Brown shared with Us in September. “But it has been amazing to receive messages from people who can relate and say that this is how relationships truly feel. Most engagements aren't as flawless as they seem. There is fear and anxiety involved.”

In a September episode of her show "Better Tomorrow," Brown disclosed that she experienced a "panic attack" before Woolard's proposal. This was mainly due to advice from her therapist, who had cautioned her against making any significant life decisions.

"There was a significant significance attached to it, I suppose, in a certain sense due to my previous hasty involvement. It didn't turn out well," Brown exclusively disclosed to Us, reflecting on her stint as the Bachelorette and her former engagement with Jed Wyatt. "Therefore, this is exhilarating, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have Adam as a constant supporter who genuinely desires to accompany me on life's journey."
