Gut-Wrenching: Pokemon Fan's Devastating Loss of Beloved Childhood Games

A devoted Pokemon enthusiast's cherished collection of rare childhood games, including valuable Nintendo DS titles, tragically vanishes after falling victim to a theft while on a journey

A Pokemon fan sadly loses his childhood games after being robbed while on a trip to Barcelona. The stolen games happen to be some of the rarest and most valuable Pokemon games in existence.

Pokemon is one of Nintendo's most successful franchises, with a game from the series available on nearly every handheld system the company has produced. It all began in 1996 with the release of Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue. If collectors wish to purchase a brand new, unopened, and top-condition grade-10 copy of these original games, they would have to be willing to spend up to $2500. And it's not just these two games that carry a hefty price tag. Graded copies of Pokemon Gold & Silver can cost up to $1600, graded copies of Pokemon Crystal can reach as high as $3800, and even sealed grade-10 copies of Pokemon FireRed can go for an astonishing $4500. The price is staggering, but the nostalgia and memories of playing each game as a child are truly priceless.

Reddit user DiegotheEcuadorian shared his unfortunate experience of having his Nintendo DS and some of his cherished Pokemon DS games stolen during a robbery in Barcelona. Among the lost games were Pokemon X, Pokemon Black, and Pokemon Black 2, which are considered rare but can still be found relatively inexpensively on platforms like eBay. However, Diego also lost Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, Pokemon Soul Silver, and Pokemon Platinum, which are more costly to replace on eBay. In total, these six games along with a new DS can be purchased online for approximately $400 to $600.

In response to Diego's post, many Reddit users expressed sympathy and shared their own unfortunate stories of losing their beloved classic Pokemon games. For example, Nina3491 shared how her younger cousin had all their Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games stolen at an airport, while Thatkentuckydaddy recounted leaving his Gameboy Advance, along with his collection of classic Pokemon games, on a bus in Miami. These stories serve as cautionary tales for gamers, emphasizing the importance of not carrying all their games while traveling. The outpouring of sympathy and shared experiences seemed to have a positive effect on DiegotheEcuadorian, as he left a comment indicating a hopeful attitude.

Nintendo has the potential to release the classic Pokemon games on the Switch in the coming years. The Switch Online service has already incorporated several Pokemon games, including Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Snap, and Pokemon Puzzle League. Additionally, considering the upcoming release of the enhanced version of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, originally developed for the more advanced 3DS, for the Switch next year, it is possible that some of the beloved Pokemon DS classics could also be ported or remade.
