It's time to get excited! Michael Keaton is back as Beetlejuice after 36 years, portraying the iconic "ghost with the most."

Warner Bros. unveiled the first teaser trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on Thursday, March 21. This long-awaited sequel by Tim Burton serves as a follow-up to the 1988 cult horror favorite, Beetlejuice.

The film brings back familiar faces including Keaton, 72, Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz, and Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz. Newcomer Jenna Ortega joins the main cast as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid. Ortega previously worked with Burton, 65, on his Netflix series, Wednesday, where she played the title character.

The trailer, just over a minute long, features a haunting cover of Harry Belafonte’s “Day O,” famously used in the original 1988 movie.

In the first scene, we get a bird’s eye view of Winter River, Connecticut, where Astrid is seen riding her bike across an old bridge. The next clip takes us to a funeral with a boys' choir performing. Just before we learn whose casket is being lowered, the setting changes to Astrid exploring her family’s attic. There, she stumbles upon a model of the town from the first movie, hidden under a sheet. Little did she know that unveiling the display would bring Beetlejuice back to life, much to Lydia's surprise as she rushes to witness his resurrection.

Beetlejuice declares, "The juice is loose," leaving Astrid in utter disbelief.

Earlier this month, Keaton opened up about why the sequel took so long to make.

"It took some time to reach our goal, and there were moments when I doubted we could make it happen. But in the end, it turned out to be more enjoyable than I expected," he shared with Entertainment Tonight.

He also had high praise for Ortega, 21, noting that she seamlessly embraced her role and seamlessly blended in with the rest of the cast.

"She's really talented, you know? She just has that special touch," he shared with the outlet. "When she arrived, she quickly grasped the tone and seamlessly fit in as if she does it every day. She's truly unique."

Ortega shared, "Everyone did an amazing job! I felt incredibly lucky to be a part of it. The experience was insane... I can't wait for everyone to see the Burton-directed sequel."

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will hit theaters and IMAX screens on September 6, 2024.
