Genshin Impact introduces new character Wriothesley, a five-star Cryo catalyst user, in their latest character demo.
Wriothesley demonstrates his combat skills in the demo, unveiling his past as a former captive at the Fortress of Meropide.
Being the only character in the game who can inflict Cryo damage exclusively through Normal Attacks, Wriothesley's exceptional abilities have the potential to reintroduce Cryo users into the meta.
Genshin Impact has unveiled a character demo showcasing Wriothesley, a highly-anticipated five-star Cryo catalyst user. Despite being announced in August before the arrival of the Fontaine region, this new demo marks his official introduction. The initial phase of update 4.1 already showcased a fresh range of limited characters, including the fearless Chief Justice Neuvillette.
As the Neuvillette and Hu Tao double banner draws to a close, it's now time for a new lineup of limited characters to take the spotlight. The recent live stream event for Genshin Impact 4.1 has confirmed that the second part of the update will feature Wriothesley and Venti as the coveted five-star characters.
Genshin Impact is known for its consistent release of promotional videos showcasing their upcoming characters. The latest character demo, titled "Art of Improvisation," introduces Wriothesley, the newest Cryo catalyst character. This video highlights Wriothesley's extraordinary combat skills as he effortlessly vanquishes formidable foes. Although not much information is available about Wriothesley, it is known that he was once held captive at the Fortress of Meropide, Fontaine's primary prison. However, he has now risen to the position of Administrator, bringing about significant changes to the prison's operations.
Despite the citizens of Fontaine's fear of Wriothesley's appearance, he remains a peaceful individual who strives to treat everyone fairly. He has even gained a noble title from the esteemed Palais Mermonia, signifying a special privilege within the Hydro nation. In terms of combat prowess, the video reveals Wriothesley's preference for close-quarter exchanges, despite being a catalyst user like the previously introduced Shikanoin Heizou.
Wriothesley introduces a groundbreaking addition to the roster of Genshin Impact characters as the first Cryo catalyst user. Through his Normal Attacks alone, he has the unique ability to inflict Cryo damage, making him a potentially ideal DPS unit for team compositions reliant on this elemental affinity. Some passionate fans argue that the Cryo element has recently lost prominence in the meta due to the emergence of Dendro elemental reactions brought forth by HoYoverse.
However, introducing characters like Wriothesley who possess distinctive abilities could potentially boost the popularity of Cryo users in the upcoming weeks. Leaks over the past couple of months have hinted at Wriothesley joining the Standard Banner once his Limited Banner concludes. However, until there is an official announcement, he will continue to be exclusively available in the limited lineup.
Genshin Impact is currently accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices, with a Switch version currently in the works.
