In the upcoming version 4.0 of Genshin Impact, three new characters have been officially announced to join the playable roster. Developer HoYoverse follows a consistent pattern of unveiling new characters approximately 5-6 weeks before they are featured on a Limited Character Banner.
During the Special Program event for Genshin Impact update 3.8, it was revealed that the release of the Fontaine nation is imminent. This new region will introduce a diving mechanic, enabling Travelers to delve into the depths of Teyvat's underwater world and embark on exploration.
Genshin Impact's official Twitter account has announced the exciting news that three new characters, Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet, will be introduced in the upcoming 4.0 update. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of Lyney and Lynette ever since they made a captivating appearance in one of the early story teasers in 2020. This announcement has now put an end to the speculation, confirming that both siblings will be featured prominently in the first Fontaine update. According to the official description, Lyney is a highly acclaimed magician from the Court of Fontaine, where he collaborates closely with his assistant, Lynette. However, recent rumors have surfaced, revealing a hidden and darker side to Lyney's character. It is said that beneath his initially friendly façade, he is solely concerned with his own interests and the well-being of his sister. Genshin Impact has also disclosed that Lyney will be a new Pyro character in the game, with additional rumors suggesting that he may be the only new five-star character introduced in this highly anticipated update.
Lyney is rumored to be a bow user specialized in the main DPS role, with great synergy expected with the confirmed Anemo character, Lynette. As there have been few leaks about Lynette's kit, it's likely that she will be a four-star character. Fans believe that the first Fontaine update will focus on these two characters and their performance.
The third character, Freminet, is also anticipated to be a four-star rarity. His official splash art reveals him as a new Hydro claymore user, seen holding The Bell weapon. Fans hope that HoYoverse will finally introduce a four-star character who can fully utilize this claymore's stats and effects.
The distribution of characters across the two banner cycles in Genshin Impact update 4.0 was not clearly explained in the official post. Players anticipate that Lyney and Lynette will be featured in the first part of the update, while Freminet is expected to be released during the second banner cycle.
Genshin Impact is currently accessible on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5, with a Switch version currently being developed.
