Genshin Impact Devs Launching a Leaker-Proof Update

Genshin Impact Dev intensifies efforts to combat leaks, as HoYoverse, the game's developer, issues an official statement addressing the growing leaker community

Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail developer HoYoverse recently announced their determination to address the issue of excessive leaks in their game. Since the release of their flagship RPG in late 2020, the game has experienced tremendous success, becoming an international phenomenon and one of the most popular free-to-play titles in the gaming world. HoYoverse's beloved franchises have achieved remarkable success, rivaling even industry giants like Sony. Unfortunately, this popularity has also led to a surge in leaks of in-development content within the fanbase.

The immense popularity of Genshin Impact has given rise to a large and continuously expanding community of leakers who share early information. While the game has traditionally teased and hinted at characters in advance through multiple patches, recent years have seen a significant increase in the leakage of internal data. In 2023, a major leak has already exposed a substantial portion of HoYoverse's plans for Genshin Impact's upcoming Fontaine region. Consequently, HoYoverse is now determined to take action against leakers who share confidential information and tighten their control over third-party software.

HoYoverse has released an official statement addressing the issue of leaks and unauthorized sharing of private information from its games. The developer has expressed their commitment to combat such actions and is prepared to take legal measures against individuals who disclose undisclosed information about the company. Their policy on leaks remains strict, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach.

Furthermore, the statement mentions that HoYoverse is actively combating users who operate private servers for the game and those who create cheats for Genshin Impact. The developer is determined to take strong action against such activities. Additionally, HoYoverse intends to continue addressing potential gray areas within the industry relating to leaks.

This latest initiative against leaks is not the first time that HoYoverse has faced legal battles with individuals involved in leak-related activities regarding Genshin Impact. The studio's legal team had previously issued a subpoena to Twitter, requesting the disclosure of identifying information for multiple Genshin Impact leakers. This legal action aligns with their previous efforts, which included taking legal measures against renowned Genshin Impact leaker Ubatcha and the "Wangsheng Funeral Parlor" Discord server. The Discord server had gained popularity as a platform for leakers to share ongoing developments about Genshin Impact.

HoYoverse's intensified efforts to address the influx of leaks coincide with the steady stream of new information about their various games in recent months. Similar to Genshin Impact, the launch of Honkai: Star Rail has fostered a thriving community of leakers, who have unveiled early details about many of the game's upcoming characters. Furthermore, leaks have even provided tantalizing glimpses into other projects from the developer, suggesting that HoYoverse may be working on an Animal Crossing competitor. Despite HoYoverse's attempts to crack down on leaks, the Genshin Impact leaker community continues to pose a persistent challenge for the developer.

Genshin Impact is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices, with a Nintendo Switch version currently in the works.
