Emily Harris, a Taylor Swift fan in Florida, found herself in a tough spot when she needed to sell her prized guitar signed by the Grammy-winning artist to cover the costs of her upcoming wedding.
The special red guitar, a meaningful 16th birthday gift from her father, bears Taylor Swift's signature. With her wedding to fiancé Jacob McDaniel set for November 2024, Emily faced the difficult decision to part ways with the cherished instrument in order to afford the wedding of her dreams.
Harris, who is 30 years old, shared in an interview with Tampa CBS affiliate WTSP on Monday, March 4 that the decision was very challenging. She expressed that she believed it was the responsible choice to make in order to cover the expenses of their wedding, as they are funding it themselves.
Her father, Randy Harris, was aware of her reluctance to part with the guitar signed by her idol. In February, he took to Taylor Swift’s Vault Facebook fan page to seek advice. He posted a message requesting suggestions on how to help his daughter, stating, “My daughter is considering selling her signed guitar to help pay for her wedding, any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.”

The Swifties responded with numerous comments, with many pleading with Emily not to sell her valuable collector's item.
One person commented, "Omg! Weddings/marriages may end, but Taylor Swift is forever."
Another fan suggested setting up a GoFundMe for the wedding. They mentioned being willing to contribute to help Emily have the wedding she desires without having to give up something so special. Emily took this advice and created a fundraising page.
"I was planning to sell my signed Taylor Swift guitar to help cover the costs of my upcoming wedding. But some incredibly supportive Swifties urged me to create a GoFundMe page instead," Emily explained, sharing pictures of the red guitar.
"We are looking forward to celebrating together this November. However, unexpected expenses keep popping up, making it challenging for our loved ones to join us," she added. "I was hoping to find someone who would appreciate this signed guitar as much as I do, while also using the sale proceeds to help fund our wedding. After receiving advice from numerous fans, I decided to start a GoFundMe campaign. Here we are!"

Emily originally aimed to raise $1,813 on her page, but she has surpassed that goal by collecting over $3,800 as of Wednesday, March 6.
Fans who donated took the opportunity to send their congratulations to Emily and Jacob for their upcoming marriage. One supporter even added a touch of creativity by mentioning Swift song titles and the name of her perfume in their comment.
When you first met your fiancé, I bet you both felt like you were in a fairytale! May your love story last forever and may you both feel like today was a fairytale on your wedding day! Congratulations!
Emily shared with WTSP that she was truly speechless. She expressed her gratitude for the kindness of the Swifties and mentioned that it reminded her of the genuine goodness in the world.
Her fiancé is also impressed by the overwhelming support.
“I find it really touching that there is a group of fans who are so passionate about preserving this artist's memorabilia that they have taken the initiative to create a GoFundMe page,” McDaniel shared with Inside Edition on March 1st.
"I love collecting sports memorabilia. If someone had items from athletes like Patrick Mahomes or Peyton Manning, they would be willing to pay top dollar for it. They wouldn't want you to miss out on something so valuable and special."
Emily expressed her gratitude towards the generous Swift fans who donated and formed a special connection with her.
"We're like best friends now. We're both Swifties, we're buddies," she mentioned. "It's amazing how people from all over the world can feel so close because of one person. Even though we don't actually know Taylor Swift personally, we share this special connection."
