Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, famous for playing Daenerys Targaryen, recently discussed her emotional journey on the hit HBO series. Reflecting on her current projects, she also delved into her time on the show, which concluded in 2018 but has regained attention due to the upcoming spin-off House of the Dragon.
During an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Clarke expressed that she is still processing her entire Game of Thrones experience, even years after the series finale. Dealing with the challenges of fame while also facing personal hardships, including two aneurysms and the loss of her father, took a toll on the young actress. However, she remains grateful for the opportunity and the powerful character she embodied.
Clarke After Game of Thrones
At times, I experienced profound sadness during that particular show simply because I was a young woman in my twenties. The coexistence of this personal turmoil with the immense phenomenon of 'Game of Thrones' occasionally proved to be bewildering. Fortunately, Daenerys became associated with a certain level of artistic excellence, a fact for which I am incredibly fortunate. Provided people refrain from inquiring about nudity, I gratefully embrace this connection. After her role in Game of Thrones, Clarke decided to explore new avenues in the form of films and theater. She craved different experiences after dedicating a substantial amount of time to the same character. Some noteworthy endeavors she undertook include Secret Invasion, The Pod Generation, Above Suspicion, and she even ventured into the realm of comic book writing with her debut creation, M.O.M.: Mother of Madness. Clarke has fervently expressed her desire to pursue all the opportunities that were previously beyond her reach.
She is set to star as Jean Kerr, the wife of US Senator Joseph McCarthy, in the biopic McCarthy, and as Constance Lloyd, the Irish author and wife of Oscar Wilde, in An Ideal Wife. With her upcoming projects, the actor is expanding her career choices, which will not require the long-term commitment that came with working on Game of Thrones.
Although she has acknowledged facing challenges during the run of Game of Thrones, she has also expressed gratitude for the experience and the love her character and the show received. The actor has previous experience working in franchises, and her current ongoing Marvel project is another well-known universe. While her current and future roles will bring diversity to her filmography, Daenerys will remain her most iconic character.
