Highlights

The Nintendo Switch Online service now offers two Game Boy titles from The Legend of Zelda series, namely Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. These games provide players with distinct stories and exclusive features, with the opportunity to unlock genuine endings through the "Linked Game" feature.

Accessing the Linked Game feature is possible by using save files from both games. The Legend of Zelda series offers two Game Boy titles, Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, now accessible on the Nintendo Switch Online service. These portable Zelda games were developed by Flagship, a subsidiary of Capcom, and originally released on the Game Boy Color in 2001. It took nearly a decade after Link's Awakening, the first Game Boy game in the Zelda series, for the Oracle games to be introduced.

Playing either the Oracle of Ages or Oracle of Seasons game will result in a different storyline. In Oracle of Ages, Link is transported to Labrynna by the Triforce, while in Oracle of Seasons, he is brought to Holodrum. Oracle of Ages involves Link traversing through different time periods to defeat the sorceress Veran, while Oracle of Seasons has the Hero of Hyrule controlling the elements to battle General Onox. Both games offer a unique "Linked Game" feature, unlocking additional content and true endings. On the Game Boy Color, this feature could be accessed through passwords or by physically connecting the two Oracle games with a Game Boy Link Cable. Although both games were previously available on the 3DS, they are no longer purchasable due to the shutdown of the 3DS eShop. However, with the release of these Zelda games on the Switch, this limitation no longer applies. Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can play Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons by updating the Game Boy app to version 1.3.0. Additionally, players can access the Linked Game feature in both games if they have a save file from each game. While Oracle of Ages is known for its difficulty, Oracle of Seasons offers a relatively easier gameplay.

Remakes of the beloved Oracles of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are highly desired by Zelda fans. With their recent inclusion in the Nintendo Switch Online service, speculations may be quelled. Nevertheless, considering the success of the 2019 remake of Link's Awakening, it remains uncertain if Nintendo will choose to undertake a similar remake for the Oracle games.

Despite being available for more than twenty years, these popular Zelda games continue to captivate fans who constantly discover new tricks and secrets within the realms of Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. As more players give these games a whirl, only time will reveal if any further revelations await.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are available now for the Game Boy, 3DS, and Nintendo Switch.
