What happened in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Episode 16?
The episode commenced with the group setting off towards their next journey. Their progress, however, was halted by Frieren, who wished to reunite with her old companion, Voll. Upon reaching the village where Voll resided, the dwarf initially failed to recognize her. Having protected the village and its inhabitants for 400 years, Voll had lived even longer than others of his kind, surpassing their typical lifespan by a century.
During their stay in Voll's village, Stark attempted to challenge the old dwarf by mocking his strength, but Voll swiftly put him in his place. Seeing this, Frieren requested her friend to train Stark.

Prior to leaving the village, Frieren had a deep conversation with Voll, who confessed that he had taken on the village’s burden for the love of his human wife. Voll expressed his intense love for her, despite not being able to remember what she looked like.
The conversation with her old friend made Frieren realize that no matter how long she live, one day her existence will fade too. The next day when Frieren’s party was about to leave, Voll told Frieren that he had a dream last night in which he saw his wife.
