In the anime industry, a "cour" refers to a quarter-year run for an anime series, meaning the series will run for a half-year straight. As a result, the first season of the Frieren anime series is expected to have approximately 24-26 episodes, which is the typical episode range for a two-cour series. Additionally, the series' website revealed the special ending theme song for the anime's two-hour premiere.

In addition to the aforementioned, the anime series Frieren has exciting news to share! It will showcase a special ending theme song exclusively for its two-hour premiere. The mesmerizing song, bliss, will be beautifully performed by milet, the talented artist who also graces us with the regular ending theme, Anytime Anywhere. Moreover, let's not forget the captivating opening theme, Yusha, by YOASOBI, meaning "Hero" in English.
The upcoming two-cour run of the series will kick off with a thrilling two-hour premiere on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 9 pm Japanese Standard Time. Breaking new ground, the show will be the very first anime to grace NTV's prestigious "Kinyo Roadshow" block, traditionally reserved for feature films. Mark your calendars as subsequent episodes will then be aired in the captivating "FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT" block at 11 pm JST, starting from October 6.
The protagonist and titular character, Frieren, is played by Atsumi Tanezaki. Other cast members include Nobuhiko Okamoto as Himmel, Hiroki Touchi as Heiter, Yoji Ueda as Eisen, Kana Ichinose as Fern, Chiaki Kobayashi as Stark, Atsuko Tanaka as Flamme, and Hiroki Yasumoto as Qual. It is unclear if this is the full cast list for the first season or if additional cast members will be announced as the series progresses.
The series is being directed by Keiichiro Saito at Madhouse studios, with Tomohiro Suzuki in charge of the series scripts. Reiko Nagasawa is designing the characters, while Evan Call is composing the music. The manga originally debuted in April 2020 and has been regularly serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine since then. Although there was a hiatus in mid-January 2023, it quickly ended in late March.
