Fortnite Fans Furious Over the Disastrous New UI Update

Fortnite enthusiasts express dissatisfaction towards Epic Games for their recent update that revamped the game's user interface and menu systems, leaving fans discontent with the changes

Highlights

Fans are unhappy with the recent Fortnite update, criticizing the new user interface for making it harder to find content and cluttering the screen.

The change has been compared to the likes of Call of Duty or a streaming service such as Hulu, featuring rectangular box icons arranged horizontally.

Numerous players are expressing their discontent on platforms like Reddit, voicing frustration with the UI alterations and the preference given to Fortnite Creative modes over the traditional ones.

Following the recent Fortnite update, fans have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the changes made to the user interface. Many believe that these changes have made it more difficult to find content and have made the screen too cluttered. Updates and patches are a regular occurrence in live service games like Fortnite, as developers strive to keep the game exciting and to encourage players to continue playing. Alongside the seasonal content and battle passes, Fortnite also regularly updates its in-game store with new cosmetic items and promotes limited-time events for players to enjoy.

Just this week, Fortnite reintroduced its Halloween-inspired Fortnitemares event. This event brings back the Horde Rush PvE game mode, as well as popular items such as the Pumpkin Launcher and Witch's Broom. This year, there are also new quests and rewards to earn, as well as new weapons like Thorne's Vampiric Blade and the Wood Stake Shotgun. Additionally, there are exciting collaborations with Alan Wake, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and horror icon Michael Myers. However, the Fortnitemares update also introduced a completely revamped menu system, which has received mixed reactions from the community.

Threads have been appearing on the Fortnite subreddit, with users like Grugstix expressing their dissatisfaction with the new user interface. Many players find the new homebar to be confusing and cluttered, making it difficult to locate the correct game mode. They believe that the previous interface was working fine and see no reason for the unnecessary change. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to revert back to the old interface despite users searching for a solution.

These threads have gained significant attention as many people agree that the UI has been progressively getting worse with each update over the years. Some comments compare the new interface to that of Call of Duty or streaming platforms like Hulu, highlighting the presence of rectangular box icons displayed horizontally. Others are particularly frustrated with the prioritization of Fortnite Creative modes, as this makes it even harder to find traditional modes like Zero Build. There is also a desire for the ability to pin certain modes to the top of the list.

In addition to the user interface, Epic Games has also announced a significant change coming to Fortnite Creative. Beginning October 16th, fan-made Creative experiences in Fortnite will receive age ratings with the guidance of rating boards such as ESRB and PEGI. Creators will receive an IARC questionnaire, which will generate a rating based on their responses. These ratings will be validated to ensure creators did not provide false information to garner a specific rating. Any content that remains unrated will be delisted on November 14th, making it much more challenging, if not impossible, to find.

Fortnite is currently available on mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
