Last week, Rocket Racing, a new game launched within Fortnite, created controversy due to its high prices for cosmetic items. However, Epic has decided to permanently reduce the prices of all Rocket Racing cars. The uncommon (green) rarity cars will now cost 1,500 V-Bucks, down from 2,500, and the rare (blue) ones are going from 4,000 V-Bucks down to 2,500. The only rare car currently in the shop, the Diesel, was previously the most expensive major cosmetic in the game priced at around $30 or more. Additionally, these cars are cross-buy with Rocket League, providing more value for players who also enjoy that game.
For those who have already purchased one or more of these cars, Epic says you'll receive a refund for the price difference within a week.
The Diesel, one of the cars receiving a price reduction in Fortnite. It's highly uncommon for Epic to adjust the V-Buck prices of any cosmetics--this is the first instance I've ever heard of it happening. Fortnite currently offers lower standard prices on items than it did in the early years, when it would feature skins for 2,000 V-Bucks--something Epic only does with the occasional collaboration skin now, such as Goku.
Despite making adjustments to the cost of purchasing V-Bucks twice since Fortnite's launch in 2017, Epic has never directly changed the prices of old items. Instead, expensive old items are typically included in new, generous bundles such as the Alien Abduction bundle. Additionally, alongside the launch of Rocket Racing, the rhythm game Fortnite Festival introduced its own selection of questionably priced cosmetics, including a 1500-V-Buck guitar. Epic has not announced any plans to adjust these prices.

As a Gen Z fan of Fortnite, I'm thrilled about the recent price drop on Rocket Racing cars and the promise of refunds for those who have already purchased them. Epic's decision to listen to player feedback and take action to address the high prices is commendable and shows that they value their players' satisfaction. This move not only makes the cars more accessible to a wider range of players but also sets a positive precedent for future pricing decisions. I hope Epic continues to engage with the community and consider player feedback when making changes to the game.
Furthermore, the cross-buy feature with Rocket League adds even more value to the purchase, making it a great deal for players who enjoy both games. It's refreshing to see Epic taking steps to ensure that players get the most out of their investments. Overall, this decision has left me feeling positive about the future of Fortnite and Epic's commitment to its players.
