The Real Housewives of Potomac series has seen its fair share of cast member departures over the years, leaving a lasting impression on viewers. One notable exit was that of Monique Samuels, who decided to leave the show following her altercation with fellow cast member Candiace Dillard-Bassett in season 5. Initially, Monique and Candiace had a close friendship after Monique joined the series in 2017. However, a miscommunication between the two quickly escalated into a physical fight, causing Monique to reconsider her time on the show.
During an episode in October 2020, cameras captured the moment when Monique forcefully grabbed Candiace by her hair and pulled her down. As the episode progressed, Monique made an attempt to re-enter the building to continue her heated argument with Candiace.
Reflecting on the incident, Monique emphasized the seriousness of physical altercations. In an exclusive interview with We one month prior to the episode airing, she expressed how she took the moment to heart. Monique revealed that since her time in grade school, she had not been involved in any physical confrontations. Being a 36-year-old mother of three children and a wife, she found the situation to be utterly insane. This experience prompted her to embark on a self-reflective journey, exploring her childhood and identifying her triggers.
After being charged with second-degree assault, Monique, who is married to Chris Samuels and has three children with him, filed a counterclaim against Candiace in the same month. However, both assault charges were ultimately dismissed in December 2020.
Following her appearance in the season 5 reunion, Monique made the decision to leave RHOP. In an Instagram video posted in December 2020, she expressed her gratitude towards her supporters, saying, "I appreciate everything that people have done for me, everybody that's been Team Monique — I love y'all, I thank y'all — but when you cross certain lines, there's no going back." She also shared her intention to represent real Black love and challenge the stereotypes portrayed on TV, acknowledging that she had unintentionally conformed to those stereotypes during the season.
After her departure from the franchise, Monique has shown no intention of making a comeback. However, her former costar Katie Rost has made occasional appearances. While Katie had a full-time role in the first season, her presence was diminished and she did not appear in season 3.
In season 4, Katie briefly returned in a "friend" capacity but later revealed that she was not invited to the reunion. In April 2022, she posted an apology to Andy Cohen on her now-deleted Instagram account.
"I apologize publicly for my previous inappropriate remarks towards Andy Cohen, and I am genuinely seeking employment. I assure you that I will conduct myself appropriately and professionally. Furthermore, I express remorse for my past outbursts and assure you that I am motivated solely by a desire to work. It is my sincere wish to make a comeback on RHOP, a show I hold dear. Additionally, I made a brief appearance during season 7 in October 2022."

Katie Rost
After departing from the show following season 1, the original cast member experienced significant highs and lows.
