Sam Neill, at the age of 76, has entered a phase of remission and has resumed engaging in his beloved activities. The esteemed actor recently provided an update on his health to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, shedding light on his battle against angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a form of non-Hodgkin blood cancer.
"I acknowledge that I possess the knowledge, but I lack genuine interest," Neill expressed. It is beyond my influence. If you cannot exercise control over it, refrain from engaging with it."
As per the National Institutes of Health, the illness "is categorized as a subtype of peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL)" and "comprises only 1% to 2% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas."
After three months of chemotherapy, Neill mentioned that the treatment became ineffective. Consequently, his doctors decided to switch to "a rare anti-cancer drug," which yielded promising results, according to Neill.
Undergoing bi-weekly doses of this drug played a crucial role in putting him into remission. However, Neill acknowledged that his doctors have informed him about its limited long-term effectiveness.
"I am prepared for that," stated Neill confidently. He expressed that he is "not in the least bit afraid" of the concept of dying, rather he finds it "irritating" as he has an abundance of activities he wishes to accomplish. On the other hand, the thought of retiring appears to "terrify" him, as opposed to death.
Neill's main priorities lie in tending to his garden, vineyards, spending time with his grandchildren, and his work. Before the actors' strike, he had been collaborating with Annette Bening on the film adaptation of Liane Moriarty's novel, "Apples Never Fall."
