Explosive Revelations Unveiled in 'Sister Wives: 1-on-1' Part 1 - Kody Brown's Controversial Perspective on Christine and Janelle's Relationship

Kody Brown opens up about the complexities of his polygamous relationships in TLC's 'Sister Wives: 1-on-1' episode Unveiling deep emotions, conflicts, and revelations, the episode explores Kody's connection with his wives, including the heartbreak, guilt, and unexpected friendships that shape their unconventional family dynamic

Kody Brown openly expressed his feelings about Christine and Janelle Brown's new friendship on the first part of season 18 of Sister Wives: 1-on-1. "I'm envious because they are finally acting the way they should have been for the past 25 years," said the 54-year-old on the episode that aired on Sunday, November 26, on the TLC series.

Kody expressed that he feels Christine, 51, and Janelle, 54, growing closer after their divorces is a deliberate attempt to upset him. "To me, it's a clear message to Kody," he stated. "It's like we're going to unite because this will really anger Kody."

The head of the family also claimed that his intense argument with Janelle, shown on season 18 and captured in December 2022, was partly due to Janelle "supporting" Christine.

Kody expressed his belief that people were trash-talking him because they felt better about how they treated him due to his small stature. This was in reference to Janelle spending time with Christine after their breakup in November 2021. In December 2022, Janelle confirmed that she and Kody had separated. Following this, Meri Brown announced in January that she and Kody had also ended their romantic relationship, leaving only Robyn Brown married to the head of the family.

Kody Says He ‘Wasn’t Vetting’ Wives to ‘Be Compatible’

During a conversation with host Sukanya Krishnan, Kody opened up about the emotional toll of divorce, having split with three of his four wives. He admitted that he was only ever truly in love with Robyn and that his eagerness to live the principle of plural marriage led him to not properly consider compatibility in his marriages. Kody emphasized that the responsibility for the failed marriages lies solely on the decision to marry without being in love.

He acknowledged that he had blinders on when entering his first three marriages. "I believed I could make up for the differences. I thought that in all three of these relationships, it's not just about being in love," he added. "It's about building a family together. We do love each other. It's an obligation. The gospel obligates us to love each other. But I never truly experienced a moment of passionate love in this place."

Robyn Didn’t Know Kody Cried With ‘Joy’ After Their 1st Encounter

"Meeting Robyn brought a sense of safety and vulnerability that I had never felt before," Kody admitted. "I met her and was overwhelmed with joy, crying for months. With her, it was like an instant connection. Unlike with the others, where it took years of work to get to this point. There was never that instant connection."

Upon hearing Kody's comments, Robyn expressed to Krishnan during their conversation, "I only just found out about that. I can't help but wonder if it's a rewriting of history, as there seems to be a lot of that going on."

She expressed, "I don’t know what else I was supposed to do, but I did my best to not have it be something that was painful for them. I constantly was suppressing and hiding my relationship in any kind of connection I had with Kody."

Christine’s Heart ‘Broke’ When She Realized Kody Was ‘In Love’ With Robyn

Christine recounted the day when she realized that Kody was deeply in love with Robyn, describing it as a "heartbreaking" moment. This happened before Kody's date with Robyn, just before they were married. Christine noticed Kody's nervousness and eventually voiced her observation that he was in love with Robyn, to which Kody initially reacted with surprise but ultimately agreed.

Kody Admits He’s ‘Guilty’ of ‘Not Being in Love’ With Exes

Christine, the mother of six children with Kody, remembered how her ex-husband would become visibly excited when talking about Robyn in front of her. She expressed, "I was like, 'Oh God!' It hurt. It hurts so bad." Christine added, "It’s so bad because you realize at that point, everything now is going to change."

After Christine's departure from the family in 2021, Kody reflected on how it impacted his approach to marriage. He expressed frustration at seeing Christine and Janelle speaking negatively about him behind his back. This experience led him to be more guarded in his relationships, as he did not want to be the subject of gossip. Kody acknowledged feeling guilty for not loving his exes and admitted that he was angry about the situation, but recognized that his guilt stretched back many years.

"I was not in love with them, and that guilt has been with me from the start," Kody admitted. "I entered into marriage with a perspective that was not based on romantic love."

He went on to confess that he is now "at a point where I wish for romantic love with Janelle" if they can resolve their differences. "Christine has always wanted romantic love from me," Kody added.

Christine Says Janelle Friendship Gives Kody a Taste of His Own Medicine

Christine informed Krishnan that she believes Kody undoubtedly feels betrayed by her close friendship with Janelle following their departure from him. "I'm thinking, 'Well, buddy, this is what jealousy looks like. Now you can understand how challenging it is when two people share a strong connection,'" she expressed. "Janelle and I have an amazing bond and perhaps he is envious of that bond. Maybe he is envious of how well we co-parent together."

Robyn Claims She ‘Never Wanted an Apology’ From Janelle’s Sons

She observed that the shift in dynamics has been difficult for Kody because he is now experiencing what it's like to be a sister wife. "It's hard that sometimes [Janelle] prioritized me over you because she can communicate with me and we can resolve things. We've had our conflicts and differences, but we always work through them," Christine expressed. "This has been our reality for 26 years. 'Open your eyes and see what it's like for us.'"

During season 17 and season 18, much of the focus was on Janelle and Kody's conflicts about their two youngest sons, Gabriel and Garrison, allegedly not following Kody's COVID-19 rules. Kody insisted on an apology from his boys and wanted them to apologize to Robyn as well, claiming they were also disrespectful to her. However, Robyn clarified that she never wanted to be involved in the drama and didn't expect or ask for an apology. She expressed frustration over her name being brought into the issue, emphasizing that it was not something she was interested in.

Janelle Felt ‘Huge Burden Had Been Lifted’ After Kody Fight

At the start of season 18, viewers witnessed a heated altercation between Janelle and Kody regarding their children and holiday plans for December 2021. Subsequently, it was disclosed that this dispute led to a two-month period during which the couple did not communicate, culminating in what appeared to be the definitive conclusion of their romantic relationship.

Recalling the incident, Janelle described the altercation as somewhat liberating. "I was quite emotional for a short while due to the shock of it all. I've never had a conflict with Kody like that," she reflected. "Afterwards, I had to run some errands and I distinctly remember feeling a sense of relief. It was the oddest thing. I was sitting in a parking lot here in Flagstaff, [Arizona], and suddenly... I felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders. I felt relieved. I no longer felt the need to put effort into the relationship with Kody."

Janelle Brown, featured on TLC's YouTube channel, was remembered by Kody for making him feel "betrayed" during their fight. Reflecting on the situation, he now recognizes that their relationship was already struggling before the confrontation took place. He emphasized that he was not trying to accuse Janelle, but they both had failed to invest in bringing their relationship back together. Kody expressed his observation that Janelle placed more value in her relationship with Christine than in her relationship with him.
