Hunter Schafer, the private star of Euphoria, has put an end to five years of online speculation by confirming her nearly six-month relationship with Rosalia in 2019.
During a cover story interview with GQ in April 2024, Schafer was hesitant to talk about the relationship at first. However, Rosalia later gave her permission to open up about their time together.
Schafer expressed her feelings about the speculation surrounding her relationship, saying, "It’s been speculation so long. Part of us just wants to get it over with, and then another part is like, ‘It’s none of anybody’s business!’" She also mentioned, "It’s something that I’m happy to share. And I think she feels the same way too."
Even though they are no longer together, the Spanish pop singer remains one of Schafer’s closest friends.
Schafer shared that she has wonderful friendships with people she used to date, emphasizing that Rosalia is like family to her, regardless of their past romantic involvement.
After their relationship ended, both women moved on to new romantic relationships with men. Schafer started dating her Euphoria co-star Dominic Fike, who portrayed singer Elliott in the show's second season. She mentioned that being with Fike was her first experience dating a man, and it helped her address many of her personal issues.
She shared with GQ that she had experienced many negative encounters with men in the past. These experiences did not only come from dating but also from various aspects of life. As a result, she had built a thick wall around men as a defense mechanism. However, everything changed when she fell in love.
Being in a relationship with Fike made her confront her feelings of disdain towards men. She described their relationship as beautiful and mentioned that it helped her overcome her negative feelings towards the male gender. Schafer admitted that her disdain had affected her friendships with men, but being with Fike had allowed her to open up in a way she had never experienced before.

After ending her relationship with Schafer in 2019, Rosalia entered a highly publicized romance with Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro. However, this relationship came to an end in late 2023, shortly after their collaborative single "Beso" was released. The music video for the song includes real footage of Rauw proposing to Rosalia, who is seen happily showing off her engagement ring with tears of joy streaming down her face.
Currently, Rosalia is happily involved in a new relationship with Jeremy Allen White, known for his role in "The Bear." Meanwhile, Schafer is taking the time to focus on healing following her breakup with Fike and the recent passing of her close friend Angus Cloud, who portrayed Fez in the popular show "Euphoria," last July.
Schafer and Cloud hit it off right away when they met on the set of Euphoria. They were both in their early twenties and connected over the fact that it was their first time acting in a TV series.
"I've never had a friend who was that close to me and the same age as me pass away before," Schafer shared. "It's a really strange feeling. It doesn't seem real. And yeah, it's a different kind of grieving process."
She continued, "I'm still in some ways healing from the last thing. I want to make sure I'm good all the way before I jump into something else."
Despite the delay in production for the third season of Euphoria, Schafer will be having a great summer. She has received positive feedback for her first leading role in Cuckoo, which will be released in May. In the horror thriller, she portrays Gretchen, a young American woman experiencing nightmares in a mysterious German town.
In June, Schafer will appear in the upcoming film by Yorgos Lanthimos, titled Kinds of Kindness. The movie is shrouded in secrecy at the moment, but it will consist of three interconnected stories. These stories follow a man attempting to assert control over his life, a policeman facing a mysterious transformation in his wife, and a woman on a quest to find someone with a unique ability. Schafer will share the screen with talented actors such as Emma Stone, Willem DaFoe, Jesse Plemons, and Margaret Qualley.
