Dominic Fike has officially announced his breakup from Hunter Schafer, his co-star from the show Euphoria, a year after their relationship became public. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Fike, 27, revealed that he used to find inspiration in her presence, even creating music together. However, he now realizes that his discomfort with being alone is not healthy, so he has made the decision to spend some time by himself.

Fike described himself as someone who values relationships, but acknowledged that casual sex is often easier. However, he expressed disdain for that kind of interaction, believing that one should only engage in intimacy with someone they would want to have a deeper connection with. He admitted to a period of time when he didn't adhere to this belief and indulged in a very active sex life. But now, he is making an effort to practice abstinence, which he finds to be a positive experience.

During a recent conversation with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Fike expressed his enthusiasm about returning to film the third season of Euphoria, even if it meant working with his former partner. He mentioned that his relationship with the cast has improved overall, although there may still be some challenges. He specifically mentioned Schafer, acknowledging that it might be a bit more complicated, but he is determined to handle the situation maturely.

In May 2022, speculations about the split of the former couple arose when Fike was seen spending time with other women. Two months before that, Fike and Schafer made their first public appearance as a couple at the Vanity Fair afterparty for the 2022 Oscars. They were accompanied by their co-stars Zendaya, Barbie Ferreira, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, and Angus Cloud.

Fike had been in a relationship with Diana Silvers in 2021 before finding love with Schafer while working together on season 2 of the popular HBO series. On the other hand, Schafer had previously been linked to Massima Desire.

Prior to confirming her relationship with Fike, Schafer and Zendaya, 26, both expressed their reservations about the new cast member. In January 2022, the Disney alum shared with Variety that there had been numerous discussions throughout the years regarding the direction and evolution of the show. When creator Sam Levinson initially introduced the idea of the character Elliot, Schafer admitted she wasn't on board, especially because she supported the "Rules" ship until the very end.

However, Schafer's opinion changed after she had the chance to meet Fike personally. She explained that she was initially hesitant about the character of Elliot, much like Zendaya, but as they became more acquainted with the story and script, it became a more intriguing and enjoyable prospect. Schafer emphasized that once Dom came on board, he added a lot of fun to the experience.

Later that month, Fike and Schafer were seen together on numerous occasions in Los Angeles. They also posted a picture on social media of themselves sharing a kiss, seemingly confirming their romantic relationship.

During that time, the connection between Fike and Schafer's characters also became a subject of conversation following Elliot and Jules' intimate encounter. Some fans expressed discontent with the complicated love triangle involving Rue, particularly since Jules had previously identified as gay.

When Euphoria returns for season 3, the characters' stories may still revolve around the polarizing love triangle, even though Rue and Jules had addressed their breakup prior to the season 2 finale that aired in February 2022.
