Princess Kate Middleton, despite her busy schedule as a royal and a mother, still finds time to pursue her passion for photography. Up until March 2024, her hobby was well-received by many.
Every year, to mark their children's birthdays, Kate and Prince William release a new portrait. Kate has taken on the role of photographer herself, capturing candid moments of Prince George, Prince Louis, and Princess Charlotte. She has also showcased her skills in more formal settings, even photographing the cover images for Queen Camilla's 2022 feature in Country Life magazine.
Kate faced criticism in March 2024 when fans noticed that a family Mother’s Day photo appeared to be digitally altered. The image, reportedly taken by William, sparked controversy.
Several news agencies were asked to remove the image from their websites, which Kate addressed in a statement. She explained that, like many amateur photographers, she sometimes plays around with editing.
While recovering from planned surgery at the time, Kate apologized for any confusion the altered photo may have caused. She wished everyone celebrating Mother’s Day a very happy day.

Summer 2022
Kate took a picture of Elizabeth with the younger members of the royal family. The photo was posted on the official Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account in April 2023.
The caption mentioned that it would have been Queen Elizabeth's 97th birthday that day. The photo was taken at Balmoral the previous summer and showed her with some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In July 2022, Getty Images announced to The Telegraph that a photo had been altered. The statement mentioned that the image underwent digital enhancement at its source, leading Getty Images to add an editor's note to acknowledge the manipulation.
Kate was asked to take photos for Camilla's profile in the July 2022 issue of U.K.'s Country Life magazine.
The editor, Mark Hedges, shared that when asked about the photographer, Camilla said, 'Oh I’d quite like Catherine to do it.' Initially confused, Mark tried to think of a professional photographer named Catherine for three to four minutes. Then, he realized that Camilla was referring to Kate, which he found to be an amazing and easy decision to agree to.
