Mortal Kombat 1 debuts today, introducing a fresh chapter for the franchise with revamped characters and an entirely new narrative. Unfortunately, the start of this era has been less than ideal for the Nintendo Switch version, as the game's underwhelming graphics are accompanied by a significant void in one of its key modes.
The Invasions mode, a solo experience where players navigate through board-game-inspired environments and tackle missions and minigames, only presents the initial Cage Mansion stage upon its release on the Switch. Regrettably, the console does not have immediate access to the first season of Invasions content, featuring the renowned character Scorpion.
Warner Bros. has acknowledged the issue on the official Mortal Kombat support site, expressing their apologies for the missing content. They explained that the content was removed to ensure the best possible experience for Switch players at launch. WB stated that the complete first season of Invasions content will be available in a few weeks. Since Invasions mode seasons are time-limited, we have reached out to Warner Bros. to inquire if the delay on the Switch will affect the duration of the first season.
The Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 has faced criticism since its early access release last week. Players who purchased the game noticed a significant drop in visual quality compared to other consoles, leading some to label the $70 price tag as "disrespectful."
Mortal Kombat 1 is now accessible on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Additionally, the initial Kombat Pass is now obtainable, showcasing Quan Chi, Ermac, Takeda, Omni-Man, Peacemaker, and Homelander. However, specific character release dates have not yet been disclosed.
