CD Projekt Red, despite facing initial release problems, has successfully regained enthusiasm and fulfilled the Cyberpunk 2077 promise via updates and expansions, surpassing the lofty standards of The Witcher 3.
CD Projekt Red, the publisher and developer of Cyberpunk 2077, has recently hinted at the first official information regarding a complete edition of the futuristic RPG. The latest major expansion, titled Phantom Liberty, has had a successful launch and has generated excitement among gamers for the future of the franchise. Both fans and investors are eager to know if there will be an ultimate edition or a game of the year version of Cyberpunk 2077, as seen with CD Projekt Red's previous game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition, which included the base game and all DLCs. The Witcher 3 received excellent reviews upon its release on PC and last-generation consoles, leading to the release of two DLC expansions and eventually an all-in-one collection. It is not uncommon for popular games to follow this strategy, and considering the positive response to the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update and the recent expansion, it would be logical for CD Projekt Red to explore a similar path. According to recent comments from the studio heads, it seems that they are indeed considering this possibility.
When inquired about the possibility of a "game of the year edition" during an investor Q&A, CD Projekt's chief commercial officer, Michał Nowakowski, not only confirmed its existence but also tantalized the audience with the promise of forthcoming details. Nowakowski stated, "Regarding a novel edition, specifically a collector's edition, the title is still unknown to us; nevertheless, we shall inform you as soon as the opportune moment arises." This question arose shortly after the emergence of a listing for the Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition on a European rating board.
The team also provided investors with additional information, including details about the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, known as Project Orion. CD Projekt Red also mentioned the possibility of a follow-up to the Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and a new live-action series. While specifics about these projects were limited, CD Projekt Red assured that more information would be shared in due time.
Despite the challenges faced during its initial release, particularly on older gaming consoles, it is remarkable that CD Projekt Red has managed to generate excitement among fans for future content in the Cyberpunk 2077 series. The highly-praised Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion, along with the numerous free updates thus far, has finally fulfilled the promises made in the game's early trailers and gameplay demonstrations. It can now be confidently stated that CD Projekt Red has overcome the challenges of the initial launch and has positioned Cyberpunk 2077 to meet the high expectations set by the developer following the success of The Witcher 3.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
