Even though Smallville concluded in 2011, fans are eagerly hoping for a continuation of the Smallville Justice League storyline. Interestingly, Smallville came close to having a spinoff show dedicated to the Justice League, however, it didn't materialize, potentially due to Warner Bros.' cinematic plans for these characters during that period.

While the Justice League was brought together in the DCEU on the big screen, Smallville was the platform where the team came to life, with a focus on Clark Kent's origin story. Throughout the later seasons, additional members of the Justice League were introduced, contributing to Smallville's unique version of the DC Universe and further developing Clark's heroic journey prior to becoming the iconic Man of Steel.

Although the show concluded in 2011, the tie-in comic for season 11 expanded the Smallville Justice League roster, including renowned heroes such as Wonder Woman, Batman, and Green Lantern. Even after more than a decade since Smallville's finale, the audience still eagerly awaits a continuation of these beloved characters' stories.

How Smallville Almost Had A Justice League Spinoff Show

Unlike the Arrowverse, Smallville had limited opportunities to expand its universe. However, the Superman prequel show came remarkably close to spinning off a Justice League series. Back in 2007, during the sixth season of Smallville, Steven DeKnight, a veteran writer for the show, penned and directed the episode titled "Justice." This pivotal episode brought together an ensemble of heroes, including Green Arrow, Impulse, Aquaman, and Cyborg. Interestingly, DeKnight envisioned "Justice" as an unofficial backdoor pilot, setting the stage for a potential Justice League spinoff show.

Smallville's Justice League show, if it had been produced, would have been based in Metropolis to facilitate crossovers with Welling's show. Instead of James Marsters, a new iteration of Brainiac would have been introduced. The primary reason for the show's cancellation stems from Warner Bros.' cinematic plans for the characters at the time. Consequently, Smallville's Justice League spinoff joined the list of unrealized DC television projects.

It is intriguing to imagine how Smallville's Justice League would appear if a series revival were to occur in the present day. Whether in live-action or through the animated project currently in development by Welling and Rosenbaum, it would be enjoyable to follow their story, especially with the introduction of additional Justice League members.
