Split-screen co-op is not available on the Xbox Series S version, which has sparked controversy. However, Larian Studios may consider adding it in the future. DLC talks are underway for Baldur's Gate 3, but any extra content will be postponed until after the game's console launch and specific updates.
Just days before the release of the game on PS5, the director of Baldur's Gate 3 has provided a more specific timeframe for its release on Xbox Series X/S. Previously, it was only known that Baldur's Gate 3 was scheduled to launch on current Xbox consoles before the year ends.
The upcoming launch of one of this summer's most popular games on Xbox has sparked some controversy due to the announcement that Baldur's Gate 3 for Xbox Series S does not have split-screen co-op. However, while it is true that the game will not initially include this feature on the lower-powered Xbox console, developer and publisher Larian Studios has not given up on adding it in the future. Despite this small setback, gamers are still eagerly awaiting the game's arrival on Xbox consoles.
In an interview with IGN, Baldur's Gate 3 director Swen Vincke announced that the highly anticipated game is expected to launch on Xbox Series X/S sometime from September to November of this year. The PS5 version of the game is slated for release on September 6, 2023, with the Xbox versions following at a later date. With Larian Studios hinting at a significant Baldur's Gate 3 update, it appears that the team will be occupied with plenty of remaining work throughout the year. Vincke emphasized that the team is currently prioritizing the PS5 version and various PC patches before fully shifting their focus to Xbox. However, he did mention that the Xbox Series X version was already in good shape during his last evaluation.
The team is frequently asked about potential downloadable content for Baldur's Gate 3, one of this year's highly-praised games. Fortunately, the developers are currently in discussions regarding DLC. However, Larian Studios has clarified that any additional content will have to wait until the game is released on consoles and certain updates are implemented. The news that the game may be available on Xbox as early as September suggests that the developers will be able to focus on new content sooner rather than later. Baldur's Gate 3 has already become a surprise hit this year, even before its release on home consoles. Outstanding reviews and word of mouth have resulted in a significant increase in Baldur's Gate 3 PS5 pre-orders, indicating that Xbox fans are likely equally eager to experience this extensive CPRG.
Baldur's Gate 3 is out now for PC. A PS5 version releases on September 6, and an Xbox Series X/S version is expected to launch between September and November 2023.
