However, the overwhelming popularity of the free Fortnite game mode caused Epic Games to quickly shift its focus solely to Battle Royale.
Since Fortnite is a free-to-play game, Epic Games primarily generates revenue by selling V-Bucks, the in-game currency. Players can utilize V-Bucks to acquire cosmetic items and the Battle Pass. Recently, Epic Games has faced criticism regarding price adjustments made to V-Bucks. In July, V-Buck prices were raised in the United Kingdom and Canada, and it was announced in September that prices would also increase in 13 other regions.
Last month, Epic Games announced an upcoming increase in V-Buck prices, which is set to occur on Friday, October 27, 2023. Recent information reveals the specific time for this change. According to iFireMonkey, a reliable Fortnite leaker, prices will be raised at 1 PM ET for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and at 12 PM ET for PS4 and PS5. While there is no precise schedule yet for the price change on mobile, Nintendo Switch, and PC, it is expected to happen around the same time. Obtaining V-Bucks has become more difficult and expensive in recent months, which includes even the Save the World Founder's Pack owners no longer receiving easy log-in V-Bucks. This decision has upset many dedicated fans of the game.
Epic Games has faced disappointment from the community due to several recent decisions. In addition to the price increases, fans have expressed their displeasure with the UI changes implemented in Fortnite.
