Known for their pride, this House originally appeared in Game of Thrones and embraces the symbol of lions. Winter Is Coming observed that the armor worn by the soldiers of House Lannister in the Game of Thrones universe had a never-before-seen design. The helmets now provided coverage for the lower part of their faces, and the rest of the suit appeared to be simpler in appearance. Additionally, their horses were also equipped with armor, and the soldiers carried shields featuring the emblem of the Lannister lion.
These Are Not The Game Of Thrones Lannisters
House Lannister's reputation soared thanks to the A Song of Ice and Fire books, but Game of Thrones on HBO transformed it into a household name. Tywin, Jaime, Cersei, and Tyrion take center stage in Game of Thrones, playing crucial roles in every season. The ruthless characters are driven by an insatiable thirst for love, wealth, and power. However, in House of the Dragon, the Lannisters have a more subdued presence, still driven by ambition but with a lesser role compared to Game of Thrones. Lord Paramount Jason Lannister makes only two appearances in season 1.
In House of the Dragon season 2, the Lannisters will have a stronger presence but will not play as significant a role as they did in Game of Thrones. The focus of House of the Dragon is the civil war among the Targaryens, and as the influential House that governs the West, the Lannisters will have a relevant position in the conflict. However, they will not lead the entire war effort like they did before. Instead, they will likely be subservient to the Targaryens.
Unlike their brutal descendants in Game of Thrones, the House of the Dragon Lannisters will not be as ruthless. Before Tywin's rise to power, the House relied more on soft power and deception rather than acts of violence. Although they will lead armies, as shown in the new set footage, they will still be under the control of the Targaryen Greens. House of the Dragon season 2 could provide a fresh perspective on the Lannisters.
