Leaked information from Genshin Impact provides a glimpse into the designs of various NPCs in the upcoming Fontaine region. These NPCs belong to the Melusine race, which is non-human. Although the playable characters in this immensely popular RPG often steal the spotlight, the game has also featured several other notable and memorable NPCs in its numerous quests. Characters like Dunyarzad, Rana, and Jeht have played significant roles in both the main story and major world quests of the game. Exciting leaks now suggest that players will encounter a group of new NPCs in Fontaine.
While the Melusine race has been hinted at in early teasers for Fontaine, they are not the first prominent non-human NPCs in Genshin Impact. Recent world quests have already introduced other notable non-playable races, such as the Pari creatures in Sumeru's Vourukasha Oasis and the Aranara species found in the region's rainforest. Additionally, the Hilichurls, a beast-like enemy, are commonly encountered throughout the world of Teyvat. Now, players can anticipate the introduction of a new non-human race, the Melusines, in the Fontaine region.
A series of images, uploaded by Vississ, a well-known leaker in the Genshin Impact community, has unveiled the initial in-game appearances of various Melusine non-playable characters (NPCs) in Fontaine. These Melusines exhibit a diverse range of colorations, with pinkish, blue, and black shades blended with white markings throughout their features. Additionally, many of them possess animal ears atop their heads, although one image indicates that there is some variation among the different types of Melusine. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that a number of Melusines opt for less extravagant attire compared to the previously revealed characters from Fontaine, which suggests the existence of a speculated class distinction within the city.
Players have been eagerly speculating about new non-human characters that may be involved in Fontaine's story, and the appearance of the Melusine confirms these speculations. Alongside the Melusines, Fontaine's teasers have showcased robotic figures roaming the streets of Fontaine City. Although machines in Genshin Impact have primarily been depicted as ruin enemies, it was previously revealed that Katheryne of the Adventurer's Guild is a humanoid robot. The introduction of the Melusines is expected to happen in Version 4.0 when Fontaine is released.
With only a month left until Fontaine's anticipated launch, HoYoverse has given fans numerous reasons to be excited about the upcoming region. Earlier this month, HoYoverse officially unveiled the three characters who will debut in Fontaine: Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet. The developer has also hinted at various new gameplay elements that will accompany the new region, such as a diving mechanic within Fontaine, and leaks suggest that underwater combat may also be featured. The addition of the Melusines will contribute to the creation of a lively and dynamic new playable area in Genshin Impact, slated to be released next month.
Genshin Impact is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
