Exclusive First Look at Avowed Gameplay - Available on Game Pass at Launch

Xbox Games Showcase was highly anticipated by many fans, who had high expectations for what Xbox would bring to the table. Although not every fan's wish was granted, Xbox did not disappoint. Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment's first major RPG project since being acquired by Microsoft, made its debut at the showcase for the first time since its reveal in July 2020.

The anticipation surrounding Avowed has been immense, with fans of the Outer Worlds and Fallout New Vegas studios eagerly awaiting its release. The game is set in Eora, the same setting as the Pillars of Eternity games, but with a first-person perspective instead of an isometric RPG style. Not much was known about Avowed before the showcase, but many have dubbed it as Obsidian's answer to Elder Scrolls since its initial reveal.

During the Xbox Games Showcase 2023, Avowed was given a more extensive look, providing fans with a glimpse into the Living Lands, its creatures, and enemies. The game's Skyrim-esque gameplay was showcased and hinted at a larger storyline. The Living Lands are currently being plagued by a mysterious disease that corrupts the souls of its inhabitants and creatures, and the player is the chosen one to put an end to it. However, the narrator's credibility is questionable as they seem to have scared the audience.

While there are many games in development, fans should not expect to learn more about Avowed anytime soon. Microsoft's main focus is currently on the release of Starfield, with the Direct showcasing its features and gameplay. Starfield is likely to dominate Xbox marketing for the next few months, while DLC and post-launch support will also be in the public eye. Nonetheless, with its impressive appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase, the future of Avowed looks promising.
