Highlights
The author, Oda, recently returned from a one-month break due to astigmatism surgery, but fans were understanding and happy to see the manga back.
Oda often takes breaks after completing a few chapters, which is understandable considering his commitment to the manga and the importance of taking time off to rest.
In the upcoming month of August, there will be several breaks in the release schedule. After chapter 1090, there will be another break, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next chapter, which will be released in September.
The One Piece manga recently ended a one-month hiatus due to Oda's astigmatism. After taking a break in June, the manga has only published two chapters since then. Fortunately, Oda's surgery went well, allowing him to quickly resume work for Jump, possibly sacrificing his own rest in the process.
As usual, One Piece does not consistently appear in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. Oda often takes breaks after several chapters. Now, the release schedule for August has been confirmed, bringing joy to fans as Oda returns. However, the upcoming schedule appears to be challenging, with numerous breaks included.
One Piece's Return In July
One Piece took a significant hiatus when Oda underwent surgery, which was expected considering the immense amount of time and effort he has devoted to the manga. Oda has dedicated countless hours and even sacrificed sleep to stay on track with the series. His eyesight, another casualty of his commitment, necessitated the surgery. Although discussions regarding the surgery took place last year with the magazine's editor, it was only this year that Oda found the time to undergo the procedure. Fortunately, One Piece fans were understanding and wished Oda well, hoping for his return with renewed strength. Consequently, Oda took a break from writing One Piece for a month in June. In July, One Piece chapter 1087, titled "Battleship Bags," marked his return.
The chapter centered heavily on the events unfolding on Pirate Island, particularly Garp's efforts to lead a Navy unit in rescuing Captain Koby. Subsequently, the following chapter, One Piece 1088, titled "Last Lesson," was released in July as well, bringing the plotline concerning the invasion of Pirate Island to a close. In the end, Garp succeeded in his mission but made the ultimate sacrifice, choosing to remain on the island and giving up his life. Despite the long wait, fans were delighted to see the manga's return. The two chapters were so extraordinary that they made up for the extended hiatus.
Oda's Break After 1088
After the release of One Piece chapter 1088, fans entered the month of August only to be greeted with a break week from Oda. Oda often takes breaks due to his inability to consistently release chapters every week at his age. However, fans understand and appreciate Oda's dedication and hard work that has turned One Piece into a phenomenon. Following a two-week break, One Piece chapter 1089 titled "Hostage Situation" was released on August 6, 2023. This chapter took fans on a journey from the East Blue to Wano, showcasing the aftermath of the destruction of Lulusia Kingdom and exploring the current story arc on Egghead Island. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates made their return in this chapter, while the Navy prepared to attack Egghead in order to eliminate Luffy and Vegapunk. The chapter was intense and packed with crucial information, setting up intriguing plot developments for the future.
Weekly Shonen Jump Break After 1089
Unfortunately, fans of One Piece will have to endure a break following chapter 1089. Contrary to popular belief, this hiatus is not due to Oda, but rather a pause by the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine itself. Consequently, there will be no official chapter released this week for One Piece and other manga featured in the magazine.
While it is possible that unauthorized scanlations and illegal translations will circulate, fans are strongly advised to avoid them due to piracy concerns and the potential for significant translation errors. Following the two-week hiatus, One Piece will resume with chapter 1090, which will likely focus on the events taking place on Egghead Island. As the climax of the Egghead Arc, the chapter will bring the story to a conclusion on this very island. Although scanlations for chapter 1090 may surface this week, the official release date is set for August 20, 2023.
Oda's Break After 1090
Surprising the fans, One Piece chapter 1090 will be followed by yet another break. This time, it is Oda himself taking the break. Typically, Oda takes breaks every three or four chapters, but currently, it seems like he is taking a break after every two chapters. After returning with chapter 1087, One Piece took a break after 1088. Similarly, after chapter 1089, Oda is taking a break after chapter 1090. It remains uncertain whether this pattern of taking breaks every two weeks will continue or if it is only temporary.
The break following chapter 1090, an Oda break, will require fans to wait an additional two weeks before the next chapter is released. This also means that One Piece chapter 1090 will be the final chapter officially available to fans in August 2023.
One Piece Schedule After 1090
One Piece chapter 1090 will be followed by a break, meaning that One Piece chapter 1091 will officially release in September 2023. The release date for One Piece chapter 1091 is set for September 3, 2023. Fortunately, there will be no break after chapter 1091, so fans can expect One Piece 1092 to likely be released on September 10, 2023. Moving forward, it remains to be seen if Oda will continue taking breaks after every two chapters or return to his previous schedule of breaks after every three chapters. Many unanswered questions remain, but fans can be certain that every chapter of One Piece has been exciting and enjoyable. With the series now in its Final Saga, fans should take the time to appreciate this journey and allow Oda to rest and spend time with his family.
