State of play
Group A
Scotland secured a vital victory over Georgia in June, keeping their flawless record intact in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. The 2-0 win brought them one step closer to securing a coveted spot in the tournament.Group B
France aim to reinforce their position on top of Group A by traveling to Cyprus, who currently sit at the bottom of the table.France has maintained a flawless record with four victories, and the Netherlands must secure a win against Greece, who are in second place, to avoid losing crucial points in their upcoming match.
Group C
The Republic of Ireland will undertake the challenging journey to confront Les Bleus at the Parc des Princes, followed by hosting the Netherlands three days later. The possibility of two defeats looms large, potentially extinguishing their aspirations of qualifying for next summer's tournament.Group C
England will encounter Ukraine at the Stadion Miejski in Wroclaw, Poland, on Saturday, aiming to maintain their flawless record of five wins from five matches.Qualification for next summer's tournament would already appear a formality for Gareth Southgate's men since beating Italy on the opening night. However, victory over second-placed Ukraine would see the Three Lions go nine points clear at the top of Group C.
Group D
Wales' hopes have been dented due to their shocking 4-2 home loss against Armenia in June, despite their draw in Croatia and victory over Latvia in March.Group E
In their match against Turkey, they suffered a 2-0 defeat on foreign soil. Now, they face a crucial challenge this week against Latvia, who currently sit at the bottom of the table. It is imperative for them to achieve a positive outcome, especially after their friendly match against South Korea in Cardiff on Thursday.Group E
Group E presents an opportunity for all teams, as the Czech Republic currently holds the top position. However, there is a narrow gap of only six points between them and the Faroe Islands, who currently occupy the last spot. To consolidate their hold on first place, the Czechs aim to secure a victory over Albania in their upcoming match on Thursday.Group F
The battle for the top spot in Group F seems to be primarily between Austria and Belgium, leaving Sweden with no option but to secure three points in their upcoming match against Estonia on Saturday.Belgium aims to take charge of the group by clinching victories against Azerbaijan and Estonia during the next two weeks.
Group G
The upcoming match between Serbia and Hungary in Belgrade on Thursday is highly anticipated as both teams are tied with seven points. However, the equation could change if Montenegro secures victory in their match against Lithuania on the same night.Group H
The ongoing six-nation group is fiercely competitive, with only two points separating Finland, currently in the top spot, and Slovenia in fourth place. Kazakhstan also holds the same number of points as Finland, placing them in second position.Denmark in third place have the advantage of playing against San Marino, who are considered the weakest team in the group, at home. However, Northern Ireland, who are currently in fifth place, must realistically win against Slovenia in order to have a chance of securing a play-off spot. It should be noted, though, that even if they do so, we would only be halfway through this lengthy group qualifying campaign.
Group I
In Group I, there is a clearer picture with Switzerland leading Romania by two points as the only undefeated teams remaining. Both teams will face Kosovo in the upcoming week, while Israel has the opportunity to overtake Romania with a victory in Bucharest on Saturday.Group J
Portugal is on the verge of securing a spot at Euro 2024 after obtaining a flawless score thus far. As the two nations clash in Bratislava on Friday, Slovakia will be hoping to deflate Portugal's confidence with a victory.Meanwhile, Luxembourg, the unexpected contenders, have garnered seven points from their initial four matches and will be hosting Iceland on the same evening.
What every country needs to do to qualify
In each qualifying group - seven of which comprise just five countries - the top two countries will qualify. Scotland has been placed in a group with Spain and Norway, whereas Wales will be pitted against Croatia. However, the Republic of Ireland is set to face a formidable challenge as they have been placed in a group alongside the Netherlands and France. Additionally, two teams from each of the three groups consisting of six nations will secure qualification for Euro 2024.
Northern Ireland, positioned within a group of six countries, is set to compete against Denmark, Finland, and Slovenia.
Germany, being the host nation, has secured automatic qualification for the tournament, with three additional countries set to qualify through the play-offs.
The qualifiers will conclude next November.
