Unfortunately, James Gunn has a disappointing update for fans eagerly awaiting the casting announcement for Batman: The Brave and The Bold in the DC Universe. As DC Studios gears up for its upcoming projects, including collaborations with Gunn and Peter Safran, the DCEU is in its final year. The highly anticipated franchise will officially kick off in 2025 with the release of Superman: Legacy, which will serve as the latest reboot for the iconic superhero.
While the casting for Superman and Lois Lane has already been finalized after an extensive search, fans are eagerly anticipating the announcement of the actors chosen for other beloved DC characters. Among them is the Dark Knight, who will be featured in his own film, Batman: The Brave and The Bold. In light of the exciting news surrounding Superman: Legacy, Gunn shared his excitement on Instagram. However, when asked about the progress of casting for Batman, Gunn delivered a disappointing update, revealing the following:
Why DC Studios May Be Waiting Longer To Cast Batman
Although Andy Muschietti is set to direct Batman: The Brave and The Bold, there are various important factors to consider regarding the casting process, which is still far from being finalized. Despite the project being announced in January, there has been no mention of an initial release date, and as of now, there is no existing script in place. Due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, no screenwriter will be signing on for Batman: The Brave and The Bold until the strike is resolved.
The potential SAG-AFTRA strike could further delay the casting process for Batman: The Brave and The Bold. Regardless of a strike or not, DC Studios may prioritize characters other than Batman, who already has significant exposure in live-action. It has been speculated that Bruce Wayne might make appearances in other DC Universe projects before his solo film, but Gunn's comments suggest otherwise.
While Batman: The Brave and The Bold may be years away, fans won't have to wait long for the next big-screen adventure of the Caped Crusader. The Batman - Part II is slated for release in 2025, unless there are delays. Thus, the world is less than two years away from the sequel. Nevertheless, whenever Batman: The Brave and The Bold casts its new Dark Knight, the wait will likely be worthwhile.
