Evolution Guide: Ducklett to Swanna in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Ducklett and Swanna are formidable Water/Flying-type Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Discover the whereabouts of Ducklett, learn the evolution process to obtain Swanna, and explore the worthiness of including Swanna in your team Dive into this guide for a competitive edge!

Ducklett and its evolved form, Swanna, are Pokemon that belong to the Water/Flying type category and can be found in the Unova Region. With numerous Water/Flying type Pokemon available in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, some trainers might find it peculiar that the Ducklett line was chosen to make a return in Kitakami, the setting of The Teal Mask DLC.

Regardless of whether Scarlet/Violet players choose to utilize Ducklett or Swanna in battles, it is necessary for them to capture both in order to complete the Kitakami Pokedex. For those who wish to include them as part of their team, whether as a Water type or a Flying type Pokemon, it is advisable to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of having Ducklett and Swanna before allocating space in their party.

Where to Find Ducklett

Duckletts can be encountered at Fellhorn Gorge and Mossfell Confluence. Prior to completing the main quest "The Way Home," they will typically be at level 34. However, after this quest, their levels increase to around level 60. Additionally, Duckletts can also be encountered in 1-star Tera Raids.

It is worth noting that some Duckletts may be found swimming, so trainers are strongly advised to unlock Koraidon/Miraidon's swim ability in advance. Catching these swimming Duckletts is easier with Dive Balls, whereas Net Balls can also be effective due to Ducklett's Water typing.

How to Evolve Ducklett (How to Get Swanna)

Evolution Guide: Ducklett to Swanna in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Ducklett evolves into Swanna at level 35. Duckletts caught in Kitakami before completing "The Way Home" will be below their evolution level. Trainers can use them in battle or Auto-Battle to gain EXP, or they can give them Exp. Candy M to level them up. Duckletts caught in the postgame only need to level up once more to evolve.

Despite Swanna not being listed in the Pokedex for Kitakami, there are specific locations in Fellhorn Gorge where Swanna can be found. One may be spotted swimming in the water, while another is situated on the cliffs between Kitakami Hall and Fellhorn Gorge. Additionally, an Ice-type Terastallized Swanna can be found in the waters at the Kitakami Wilds near the Gracious Stones landmark. Otherwise, trainers can catch Swanna in 4-star Tera Raids, which become available after obtaining 7 gym badges.

To increase the chances of capturing the Fixed Spawn Swannas, trainers should opt for Dive Balls or Net Balls instead. Unlike Ducklett, Swanna has a lower catch rate and is likely to escape from a Quick Ball, requiring trainers to engage in battle. Deploy moves that gradually decrease its HP without targeting its type weaknesses. It is crucial to avoid Electric-type moves since Swanna is severely vulnerable to them, resulting in an instant knockout.

When encountering the Terastallized Swanna in the Kitakami Wilds, players should unleash powerful Fire, Fighting, or Steel-type moves. Once its Tera Form is shattered, Swanna can be captured, with its HP likely to be in the red or orange zone at this stage.

Ability #1

Keen Eye: Ducklett/Swanna's Accuracy can't be lowered. It also doesn't calculate the target Pokemon's evasiveness when attacking.

Ability #2

Big Pecks: Opposing Pokemon can't lower Ducklett/Swanna's Defense.

Hidden Ability

Hydration: If Rain Dance is in effect, Ducklett/Swanna's status problems are healed at the end of each turn.

Although Swanna's Attack and Special Attack base stats are equal, the majority of its offensive moves in its learnset are special moves. Therefore, it is more beneficial to utilize Swanna as a special attacker rather than a physical attacker.

In addition to its TM learnset consisting primarily of Water, Flying, and Normal-type moves, Swanna also has the ability to learn attacks that provide it with some coverage.

To expand its coverage against Grass-types, it is highly recommended to consider moves such as Ice Beam or Icy Wind. Not only will these moves provide additional advantages against Dragon-type Pokemon, but Swanna's Flying-type means it will only take normal damage instead of double damage from Grass-type attacks.

Air Slash and Hurricane are strong Flying-type moves available in Swanna's repertoire. Air Slash boasts a power of 75 and an accuracy of 95%, while Hurricane packs a punch with a power of 110 and an accuracy of 70%.

Regrettably, Swanna is unable to learn Scald in the Scarlet/Violet versions. However, fret not, as there is an alternative Water-type move available for Swanna to learn: Surf.

Defog proves to be an effective status move for Swanna by reducing the target's evasion by one stage and eliminating the effects of barrier-moves like Reflect and Light Screen. Please be aware that barriers generated by Tera Raid Pokemon cannot be removed.

Editor's P/S

As a long-time fan of the Pokemon franchise, I was thrilled to see the return of Ducklett and Swanna in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. These Water/Flying-type Pokemon originally debuted in Pokemon Black and White, and they quickly became two of my favorites. I love their elegant designs, and their typing gives them a unique advantage in battle.

I appreciate that Game Freak has made it relatively easy to obtain Ducklett and Swanna in Scarlet & Violet. Ducklett can be found in several locations throughout the Paldea region, and Swanna can be found in specific areas of Fellhorn Gorge. This makes it possible for players to add these Pokemon to their teams early on and use them throughout their journey.
